Router bits for stile and rail advice please

How tight do you realistically want the panel to be? I have a 6mm groove cutter which seems about right for 6mm ply panels (always undersized, more like 5.5mm on average!) But for 6mm MDF it was way too tight so I had to widen the grooves a touch.

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Thanks everyone for your input, it's all been really helpful. After talking it over with my wife and weighing up the options, she said "it sounds like you want the festool so just go for it" - wise words so I'll be the owner of a CXS on Tuesday 😁 Ultimately it's not the most powerful of the...

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Thanks @HOJ , that's really helpful. I gather your festool C12 is roughly comparable to the current C18 and so a fair bit larger than the CXS I'm looking at. The Mafell looks larger than I'd expected, and the handle looks uncomfortably wide in comparison to the Makita - how do you find that in use?

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Would that be This drill you're talking about? I'd totally missed that before, looks like it does everything I'm looking for and more so definitely a contender, thanks! I can see the hammer action being useful on occasion. Looks so good in fact I think it's knocked the Bosch out of the...

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Thanks for all the comments everyone, there's too much to reply to everything but I'm trying to take everything on board and it's all been a great help. @fleyh thanks for the Peter Parfitt link, that's very helpful and I'm starting to get my head around the centrotec stuff (despite the price of...

    Small 12v drill/drivers

That looks great value for odd DIY jobs, I'm expecting pretty regular use so I'd rather spend more and get a tool designed to take some use and abuse!

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Thanks @fleyh I've tried a cheapy no name right angle adapter in the past and it ended up in the bin, just couldn't get on with it and you've got to fight the whole unit wanting to spin. Also just having a small, lightweight drill would make my life easier on a fairly regular basis, so I'm...

    Small 12v drill/drivers

I get you, and I appreciate it's a fairly uncommon use case - chances are I'll use it as a straightforward drill driver 95% of the time, but every now and then I find myself awkwardly using a small ratchet when I can't get a drill in and a right angle drill attachment will make that so much...

    Sacraficial insulation board?

Personally I'm not a big fan of this idea - I've seen it done a lot and can't argue with the practicality of it if you've got space to store it. However, no saw has 100% dust collection and it seems to me that you'll be putting a lot of microplastics into the air and environment each time you...

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Yep that would be a good option, but sadly as far as I can tell Makita don't make a drill in this category.

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Thanks, that's the sort of thing I've heard from a quick googling. Have you invested in centrotec bits or can you get by with standard hex bits? I'm a bit confused about what the point of centrotec is, are there any advantages or is it just festool trying to sell more accessories?

Using an impact Driver for Screwing?

Thanks! Funnily enough I just started a new thread asking for opinions on this and other options. How do you find it for day to day use? I'm not expecting it to totally replace my 18v Makita but where's the line where you'd put the Bosch down and reach for something bigger? Is the handle and...

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Nope no 12v batteries or tools yet so starting from scratch here, although I'm really not likely to buy any other 12v tools so quite happy for this to be a one and done situation. I had a quick look at the Dewalt offering and discounted it quite quickly - I'm probably wrong but my initial...

    Small 12v drill/drivers

Hi all, I'm currently in the market for a small 12v drill/driver, mainly for those awkward hard to reach spots but it may well take other duties from my 18v Makita drills if it's nicer to use. My first thought was the Bosch flexiclick, seems seems to be available around £175 with two batteries...

Using an impact Driver for Screwing?

Clearly I'm doing it wrong because I use my impact driver for almost everything 😂 It's convenience as much as anything - my combi drill is for drilling and the impact is for driving, saves switching bits so much. I also like the smaller form factor of the impact, you can get it into tighter...

DeWalt DWS780 Mitre saw dust extraction

Oh yeah my KS60 is a vast improvement over any mitre saw I've used before, I just wanted to point out it's not 100% so Bingy Man doesn't expect miracles. My KS60 attached to a CTL Midi with a 36mm hose catches most of the dust on most cuts, a little always escaped but not the dust clouds I've...

DeWalt DWS780 Mitre saw dust extraction

I have the KS60 - the smallest of festool's offerings. Dust extraction is good but not perfect - I gather the bigger brother KS120 is the best for dust collection but don't expect miracles, it's still a mitre saw!

Festool saw with 3rd party track

There's a lot to unpack there @Spectric and it's clear you've made up your mind. All I'm going to say is I bought the Makita off the back of similar comments/arguments/reviews thinking it was comparable to the festool, my experience is otherwise and I'd have been much happier spending the extra...

Festool saw with 3rd party track

I feel like you've got a bit of an axe to grind here as I've seen you speaking up against the "festool hype" a few times on this forum. Which saws do you have hands on experience with? Dust extraction is only one of many differences we're looking at here. I'll try to be fair because my Makita...

Festool saw with 3rd party track

I use the festool with Makita tracks, I gather the excel are identical so you shouldn't have any issues. If it has the ridge for Makita's anti tipping lip you might run into compatibility issues with some accessories but it's not been an issue for me yet. Festool saw is definitely worth the...
