Now is the time to buy 150 mm metric Starrett Combination Square

I have nothing against the Chinese products as long as they maintain the QA required by the manufacturer and are comissioned by the manufacturer to produce the product. But I am against fake products that try imitate the original and are of low quality and are sold either as genuine products or...

Thank you very much Jacob. This is a very nice demonstration. I will build something similar in the future.

Level vials in the chisel handle

I could just drill a hole for a small circular vial in the top of the handle and make it recessed so that I do not smash it with mallet. Very easy installation. Would the wood split around it? I do not know. If my vise or bench top is not parallel to the ground, it would be of little use, though.

Now is the time to buy 150 mm metric Starrett Combination Square

I do not think so, because all other types have regular prices on Amazon as well. e.g. 300 mm square of the same type https://www.amazon.co.uk/Starrett-11MH-Combination-Square-Attachment/dp/B00209VVA2/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=starrett+combination+square&qid=1607939041&sr=8-3 The price might...

Now is the time to buy 150 mm metric Starrett Combination Square

I have bought it and I will receive it within a week. I will not find out if it is a genuine Starrett, but I may find out if it is indeed square. All other Starretts out there have regular prices, and this square is sold directly by amazon, so I don't think that they would sell all but one...

Now is the time to buy 150 mm metric Starrett Combination Square

Maybe that is the mistake that has not been corrected since 2016. I doubt that those guys that process millions of items know the common market price of Starrett combination square ;) So it does not come strange to them.

Now is the time to buy 150 mm metric Starrett Combination Square

Hello, I have never contributed to this forum by my knowledge, just asked questions as I am an inexperienced hobby woodworker. Now it is time to help others. I just want to share that amazon.co.uk now sells Starrett metric combination square (full version, not the student one) for only 27...

    Hand saw buying advice

Thank you very much Jacob. I have already built two sawhorses, but they might be too tall (90 cm) for sawing. I would need to build smaller version of them.

What is the best hand tool for rounding edges and creating long sliding dovetails?

Thank you very much for the link. This plane is not a priority for me at the moment, but you have shown me a new UK shop which I did not know before. I can look up some good stuff there. Can you please give me tips on other good woodworking shops in UK or Europe? I know Axminster...

    Hand saw buying advice

I would like to build a saw bench like the one on the picture below. Yes that is exactly what I meant. To use my knee as a clamp so the stock does not move around. You are right, I am thinking too hard, because I have bought some brand new powered woodworking tools in the past and I did not...

    Hand saw buying advice

In Slovakia, there is a very little option to buy anything but disposable hard-point saws with plastic handles. People are not yet very interested in working with hand tools only. They want machines. There are some sellers from Czech Republic, but the closest real woodworking shop for hand tools...

    Hand saw buying advice

Thank you very much, Jacob. Can you also tell me an optimal length of the panel saws and TPI? I would like to buy both as 20 inches (508mm) saws. 10 TPI for crosscut and 4,5 TPI for rip cut. Both saws are for rough cutting and the surface will be planed afterwards. Thanks.

    Hand saw buying advice

Can you tell me if there is a significant difference in cutting speed or quality between taper ground and flat ground saws? And how do I find out if the saw is flat ground or taper ground without asking the seller on ebay (many of them might not have a clue or a calipers to measure it). Should...

Level vials in the chisel handle

Hello, I had an idea if it would be beneficial to produce a chisel, that will have two perpendicular level vials in the handle. That way I would know that I have positioned the chisel in a way that is perfectly plumb without any additional tools. It might be useful if I want to chop out wood...

    Hand saw buying advice

Hello, I would like to ask for a buying advice for a complete hand saw setup for hand tool only woodworking. I am thinking about 3 ways how to cover my hand sawing needs . I would be working mostly with hardwood up to 50 mm thick and up to 2 m long. 1. Japanese way: 300 mm Ryoba for ripping...

Thank you very much Derek. This is a very interesting idea. I will try to find #79 plane somewhere on Ebay.

What is the best hand tool for rounding edges and creating long sliding dovetails?

Hello, I would like to ask what is the most appropriate hand tool or a procedure with hand tools to round corners uniformly to get 2 - 3 mm radius (e.g. on table legs or tabletop edge)? The second question is what hand tools can be used to create longer sliding dovetails ( e.g. 60 cm wide...
