    Router recommendations

Are you sure you need a router? Can’t you just use a drill (with a Forstner bit perhaps) to drill out the mortises?

£50 wet dry 1400w vac Aldi

I wonder how the £50 Aldi version compares to the £80 30L Lidl version. Visually they look similar. Both are wet and dry, and both include "power take off." My Parkside is rated at 1400W for the tool port, includes variable suction, and has a filter clean facility. I like my Parkside a lot and...

    Bambu lab buying advice

I simply buy the cheapest from eBay or Amazon, run a temperature tower as my first print, set print temp accordingly and the Bambu A1 mini takes care of the rest. To name specific brands I remember having used without issues (mostly PETG): Kongroon, JAYO, SUNLU. Tried Bambu PLA Basic once - no...

    Bambu lab buying advice

If there is one thing I would not pay any extra for, it is the screen on Bambu printers. They could remove the screen completely and (at least in my use) that would make zero difference. Bambu Studio and the mobile app are more than sufficient for controlling the printer.

    Bambu lab buying advice

You must have been extremely unlucky with your PETG spools. I print almost exclusively with PETG on an A1 Mini, with no enclosure. Have never actively dried my PETG filament before printing either. I've been buying my PETG from various places and brands without any issues, except some stringing...

Review: Rutland magnetic vacuum hose connectors

Thank you for the review @RobNichols For those with a 3D printer, there are several variations of this kind of connector freely available. e.g. - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5322756 - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5815078

    Bambu lab buying advice

Unless you have a very specific use case - neither Nylon nor ABS are necessary for the workshop purposes you listed. PLA, PETG and their sub-variants are plenty strong. You just need to learn/understand what material/settings is more suitable for which application. The model design and print...

    Bambu lab buying advice

Home 3D printing technology is in a state similar to PCs/CPUs in the 1990s. Every three to six months, something faster and better is released. If you need specific P1S features right now and expect to use them a lot, then go for it. But if you are just starting the 3D printing journey and do...

Reekon M1 mitre saw measuring tool - £110 Amazon prime day deal

I was talking about the seller, not the product. Single lifetime rating, is not that suspicious?

Reekon M1 mitre saw measuring tool - £110 Amazon prime day deal

Be cautious. That seller's name seems genuine, but they have no sales history and only that one product listed on Amazon UK.

    Using ChatGPT with OpenSCAD

Welcome to the club ! I have not tried an LLM with OpenSCAD personally because others tried that before me and also because I am reasonably familiar with how these systems answer programming questions for minor languages that do not have a large public codebase (i.e. extremely limited training...

Stud finders - do any of them work?

As @Doug71 wrote above, for DIY and if you want to find wooden studs specifically, there is no reason to waste money. However, better (read: more expensive) "stud finders" also allow you to detect: Metal (to stop you from drilling into a water or gas pipe) Wires (to stop you from...

    Which Scheppach band saw?

If I had no other option but these two - I would avoid HSBC30 because of two reasons: 1. Wrong way round switch orientation. - my OCD requires ON to be on top, not the bottom. I had to turn the switch on my Axminster bandsaw, as having ON in the normal position of OFF was simply dangerous. 2...

    Belt mounted respirators

If you have the funds, then the 3M Versaflo usually receives good feedback. I have not personally used it, as I could not justify its 5X price compared to the Trend Airshield Pro at the time when I was looking for a powered respirator. Besides, in my circumstances, a hose on the back would...

RUST Prevention on TOOLS- I am giving up on Camellia Oil...

I find paste wax to be the most convenient method, which works most of the time against moisture in the air. It does not do much against active water droplets (e.g. when my bandsaw was left next to the open garage door and it was windy and raining outside.). If you have not seen these yet, they...

Festool TSC 55 cordless plunge saw - Riving knife vs KickBackStop model?

I am a MT55 user but from memory - the riving knife on the TS55 is spring-loaded, so it does not interfere with "middle of the board" plunges.

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

You are a genius !!! Thank you so much for the clarification and for taking the time to make the drawing. This is the kind of solution I was hoping for.

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

Just as an update - I have decided to risk it and resaw my box top into two 5mm thick panels. I am going to glue one of those panels without any extra allowance for wood expansion and see what happens in a year :D The short sides of the box have the wood grain going in the same direction, so I...

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

LOL. No argument here, I have seen better myself, but I like working with what I have rather than what I could have. Thank you very much for your kind offer Tim. To clarify, I am not looking to remake the lid but rather collecting options on how I can permanently embed the top (and account for...

How to make the lid/top and not screw up mitres

Both options sound very possible, but I am not sure I understand them 100% as I can't see how this will allow for wood movement because I would have to glue the top to the fillets/strips, wouldn't I?
