Decided which new lathe. Now what ?

Hi there. Chucks have come up several times, some posts worth a read that I have added to in past (note ax Super Precision now discontinued but read evo in its place and I think they all still hold). k10-chuck-jaws-recommendation-t49248.html...

    Does anyone cover their lathe?

I have a wood and metal lathe in the same workshop and am keen that the metal lathe, being all oily, doesn't end up covered in dust. I recently found that Riley (amongest others) make snooker table covers, with weighted corners so the cover sits nicely, out of a very complient, but tough...

When is a bench grinder's wheel too small ?

To add another thought - it could be said there is an advantage to a worn wheel in that the peripheral speed will be less so reduced chance of overheading tool but that is really only relevent with bad sharpening practice that will struggle with the smaller wheel so, given cost of the rest of...

    Selling houses online

Depends on your time pressure and level of hassle your prepared to put up with I suppose. If you do not need a quick sale and are prepared or able to have someone at home when people want to view then you could do worse than give it a go. If you don't want the hassle, or can't be flexible...

    left handed turning

I'm a lefty and turn on std kit without really thinking about it. You need to go both ways anyway. Right arm really just guides tool with support from tool rest. Best bet is to give it a go (I'd suggest a beginners day with a prof turner, most do it or know someone) and take it from there...

    Neighbours window?

You (they) can easily apply a frosting film for minimal cost with very little effect on natural light transmission so there should be a easy / cheap solution provided they are of a mind to listen.

    starter lathe for bowl turning?

One trip that would be worth considering is to speak with the Max Carey Woodturning Trust with is associated with the Avon & Bristol Club. http://www.maxcareywoodturningtrust.org.uk/index.html They have a workshop in Portishead with (at last count when I was there) had 20+ lathes ranging...

    Axminster Hobby Red - Rebrand

Thanks Mike. Now I think about it I'm sure they had white and white n dark grey on the go in parallel also! Come on APTC, your not prada - what's going on? I know swmbo has on occasion come home with 'this season's colour' but surely this marketing does not extend to the home workshop now...

    Most painful mistake??

Hole in plasterboard ceiling abovve lathe tells the story. (Over exuberance with McNaughton centre saver and 20" x 6" blank.) Missed me but did have to have two cups of tea and several jaffa cakes whilst sitting down inside before climbing back on the horse. S

    Clever Senior Citizens

A married couple is travelling by car from Victoria to Prince George . Being seniors, after almost eleven hours on the road, they were too tired to continue and decided to take a room. But, they only planned to sleep for four hours and then get back on the road. When they checked out four hours...
