Cleaning air on a small workshop

Enrico, Not sure where to start to answer this helpfully really. Depends what you are making, if you plan to use machines and even type of timber. Are you at ground level - if so could you site something outside? This helps mitigate noise in a small room but will suck any heat out (maybe...

    Live centre tailstock chuck

Good news. Out of interest, what diameter is the smallest diameter? Do you have either variable speed or a soft start as I guess there is a risk that one end starts spinning and the other doesn't! S

    Live centre tailstock chuck

I've not seen such an item and without more info I'm taking as read your considered rolling or string steady devices and dismissed them. You can get adaptors for the oneway (and I guess similar) live centres that mimic the headstock thread allowing a small woodturning chuck (or anything else...

    Box

Nice job, and good finish. Depends how much you want to fiddle, but if time is to hand I'd have a play with the balance on the design a bit. It could be the camera angle but the lid seems to dominate the box. You could slim the lid a little to help or even turn a slim maple base to help give...

    Wall hung Plane Till

Cheeky comment I know, but where does the plane on the chest to the right in the second piccy go?!?!?

mahogany tool box and chisel tray

The normal suspects do ok box hardware that will work well in this application. However, if you want really top quality (or are interested in box making etc) Andrew Crawford is well worth looking at both for his veneered boxes and also hardware he has designed and now sells...

mahogany tool box and chisel tray

Nice DTs - really look crisp. In terms of bit of constructive criticism, looking at the finished project the lid 'looks' heavy to me, I'd be temped to chamfer the top quite a bit (1/4" x 3/4") to give it a bit of angle to lighten the look. Also, are the hinges recessed enough, looks like the...

    Record Power Scroll Chucks

I've always found them to be very accurate - I have a small centre pop mark on mine that I always align with a mark I've put on jaw 1 carrier so I know it goes back pretty much spot on and then let the metal / metal contact do the rest. Simples! S

Best Turning Tools For Large Bowls and Platters?

As Chas says really - all good advice. My prefered tool for all work of that type is a Henry Taylor HS1 Superflude gouge (5/8" iirc) that will cope with everything and more + allows either a traditional or swept back grind due to the parabolic rather than U shape of the flute. S

    improving my jet sharpener

I'd have a look at the retaining nut holding the existing one on first! I have one of these that will be due a replacement wheel in due course and the nut seems to be common mild steel rather than stainless as it is rusted up a treat and refuses to budge! Don't want to put too much abuse into...

Professional Turners Work - Do you have any?

Perhaps take spirt rather than literal definition - I was thinking done for commercial gain rather than proficient home turner as I agree there is wonderful work done by many for they own and friends (incl e-friends) enjoyment.

    Record Power Scroll Chucks

Don't forget face plate rings as a cheap but accurate way of taking work in and out of chucks.

Professional Turners Work - Do you have any?

In any hobby, one can often look to the 'professionals' for ideas, new ways of thinking or simply inspiration. Across the globe there are some superb professional turners who produce some great stuff. Is there a turner, a piece of whose work you'd really like? Do you have a piece of work...

    Hollowing out

Why? Unless your planning on hacking through some horrible aussy grit impregnated burr all the time, HSS are cheaper, easier to sharpen, more readily available and will take a keener edge. If you've thought through all the above then accept my apologies, but 'carbide' seems to be the current...

    Rescued hollow form

Nice re-work - what were you trying to achieve with the colour that did not give the result you were after? I do like the texturing you've achieved on the final item, it is a nice balance of random but even if that makes sense that is therefore pleasing on the eye. One thing to think about...

How little is little. I use a book-binding press which will take up to A3 size. Picked up off eBay for £20 iirc. Simon
