    Olive Ash Bowl

A stunning piece of timber and some really nice turning as well, well done! One thought, I really like the subtle lip you've turned on the base just outside the foot. If I was me, I'd of turned the foot off so the bowl sat on the little lip rather than the larger dovetailed foot with the...

Forum 2015 Secret Santa closing soon!

Folks, Thought I'd post a quick 'advert' here for those of you who view other sub-sections of the board less frequently. The 2015 Secret Santa sign-up is well in flow on the 'Hand Tool' sub section (sticky post at top of that section) with not much time left - sign closes on 10th Nov. For...

Last weekend to sign-up for Secret Santa!!!!!!

Come on folks, this weekend is the last one to sign up as I am closing the list and doing the draw early next week (last chance is actually midnight on 10th but why wait until then). We have a good number of the established members of this here forum, but there is always space for more. So, if...

    Interesting use for a lathe

Seems like a dangerous way to make an average item. Not for me this one!

    Record Power RSBG8 - Balancing

best of luck with the replacement. Unfortunately I had a similar experiance and to be fair, RP sent out two replacements but neither gave a level of balance I thought was reasonable so ended up with a Crusen which is A1 (but at a price of course). I think there is advice out there on balancing...

Secret Santa 2015 - The call for entrants so please read!

Well folks, Following my post in the earlier thread offering to help if no one came forward I am here to offer my services :) . I do work full time and have a young family so may not be able to be quite as attentive to 'coach' stragglers as Waka always managed to do so effectively, but I...

    Too naughty ?

It would be a shame for it to stop, I'll take over for this if Waka wants to take a step back (and who could blame him given the fact he has made it work for the past n years quite appart from if someone has had the brass neck to be anything other than appreciative of his efforts). Does anyone...

    Compressor for my new lathe??????

Decent size accumulator would be a must for sure (if nothing else than to mitigate power cuts!). Simon

    Compressor for my new lathe??????

Nice feature, not seen that before. As even, call to manuf / APTC will be needed as depends on capacity of venturi pump system but I would estimate circa 3 - 5 cfm @ approx 90psi will be somewhere near what I would expect. S

Wow, just wow. Kawai Tsugite joint

    Chainsaw

+1 for Aspen fuel. Not cheap but with a decade+ shelf life worth it if you are an occasional user. I went for a used Husky, from the research I did - it seemed that the entry level sthil were more cheaply built and traded on the brand name with little of the sthil professional series quality...

    Barn Conversion to workshop

This is a really interesting build / conversion - It's like a Woody soap. Happiness, problems, escapism of lovely location, frustrations overcome, family tension etc etc!!! All we need now is an unexplained pregnancy and you'll be a hit. Looking forward to next week's update! Simon

The Creative Woodturner - Terry Martin

Nic, I've not read or seen this one but do have quite a few turning related books. What are you after in a book, I'm sure someone here can suggest something that will help you. Simon.

    Toolmex chuck

Yep- that's fine Keith. The jaws in the photo are similar to engineering jaws. Most turning jaws are mounted on a set of carriers with two allen bolts as you describe. All fit on the same scroll pitch. (worth looking at Axminster's clearence section, they had a range of jaws mounted on...

    Toolmex chuck

Does it look like this one? iirc I think the Toolmex was just one of the subcontractors axminster used at one time (I have a couple and I think the Polish, earlier ones, were of superior fit and finish to the ones that followed before being brought back in house for the recent incarnations)...

Got My 2nd Hand M950 Set Up - now to make some mess

A note of caution. The morse taper has a tang on the end (flat bit). If you use it in the headstock to hold something then you MUST have the tailstock and a rotating centre supporting the other end else it will work lose. Some morse tapers have a threaded hole rather than the tang and you can...
