    Rip off Britain?

I repaired a dozen or so PCBs for a particular model of combi boiler about 30 years ago. Bridge rectifiers had burnt out, replaced with higher rated part, and good as new. Admittedly today's boilers are far more complex, but in my experience of electronics, it's rarely the microcontroller that...

    Electric vehicles

Although I'm not anti-EV, and I believe a lot of the obstacles can and will be overcome in time, I don't think that citing the 25 year period without filling stations will do much to reassure the EV sceptics!

There are a class of words in English that can function as nouns or verbs, such as contract, impact, etc. The distinction is made by the emphasis being applied to the first or second syllable. Desert(noun) and desert(vb) narrowly misses falling into this category, but it's fairly obvious that...

Another mystery tool, maybe not so mysterious!

I have one of those also(the boot jack). It didn't cost £35 though, offcut of larch cladding and a bandsaw...but as you say, £35 is cheaper than a groom!

Ok, I feel you are willfully misunderstanding what I wrote. There was no "second part" to that point, but I give up.

Those two clauses, one of which you agree with, and one of which you heartily contradict, were intended to be read together, as a single sentence; i.e. unanimity is destroyed by a single dissenting voice.

    Electric vehicles

If by consensus you mean unanimous agreement, then OK, that's never going to happen - only takes one maverick scientist to upset the apple cart, but then you could probably find a "member of the scientific community" to disagree with the theory of gravity, evolution or the earth being an oblate...

    Cabinet material for outdoor kitchen?

You could try phenolic faced ply. I've found it fairly indestructible. I replaced the jaws on a cheapo workmate clone 4 years ago, and they're still fine, even though it lives outside.

Certainly looks a bit like the spring stretcher supplied with my wife's trampoline.

Only when the battery is "flat". For a lot of people, that's a small percentage of the time. We have a plugin hybrid, and most of our supermarket trips and grandchildren ferrying is done without burning fossil fuels.

    Electrical question

24kw output or input? Is it a heat pump?
  14. J

    Electric vehicles

Well of course, and no doubt the physical exertion of cycling will increase your CO2 output as well, but you can fart in a car, and there may be some relationship between exercise, farting and CO2 output that works in favour of the cyclist. I await the study with bated breath and pinched nose.

    Not just non-natives..

    Electric vehicles

Well they're not entirely non-polluting, as long as we still rely on some fossil fuelled power stations, but I said linked, I'm not suggestion a linear relationship. Maybe I should have said loosely coupled. Can I just point out that a while back, when I commented on one of your posts, you...

    Electrical question

Breakers trip on a combination of current and time duration, as far as I know, so maybe the 20A has a quicker response time.

Any ideas on what this might have been?

That's what I meant. Just couldn't think of the term..

I see. Just picking a fight, as I thought.
