    Robinson ET/E Saw

Thanks for the interest, I shall get a bit more up of the saw towards the end of the week. I am doing an old over/under very soon, a complete overhaul so I’ll probably document that on here for the machine enthusiasts. Also at my work is a truly unique Wadkin CC ‘hole in the wall’ saw that’s...

    Robinson ET/E Saw

I’ve very nearly finished my wonderful ET/E table saw, I brought it last July in pretty rough order, but it was mostly complete and the price was way to good to pass up. I didn’t give it any thought at the time so I don’t have any photos of it when I got it. It resembled an old horse shoe, and...

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

Thankyou, I’m pleased you enjoyed the thread and found it of some interest. This is for a client yes, and I have made a few gates/doors in my time. I do fabricate in stainless steel, I make quite a bit of door furniture like stays, drop bolts, handles, straight hinges etc and also lots of...

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

Thanks Paul appreciate the interest, I was going to reply to Niall & Phil on that, sounds good and would probably offer the best form of protection! I use this stuff It has a good coat of this, which is really good stuff in my experience, and then 2 coats of black over the top (top coats...

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

I sorted the pins out on there carrying plates, ground some nice 45s on there to take a good couple of passes with the welder and made them all up, it’s a case of laying up the gate with the posts on a level deck and trigging it all up for final finishing. These land central to my 6” posts...

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

Next up is to finish up the various components ready for trigging it all up. Here is my gate to lash all of this together. Fairly straightforward, made all the easier being made of oak, the only slight curve ball is the ‘capping that isn’t really capping’ on the top, we decided it was a lot...

    Heads-up - Gluing Accoya

You’re not alone Johnny, I never got on with it and we gave it a really good go. Used tons of it but it wasn’t for me.

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

I’ll next post up in the week, it’ll probably (hopefully) all be swinging and looking good in a few days.

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

Over to my garage now, I have no woodworking tools at home what so ever but I do have some kit for metalworking. I need to make the bracket assembly now that will fix the hinges I’ve made to the posts of the gate, the posts are 6x6 or very close to it and the gate in question does weigh a fair...

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

Ready to go First pass The curved top hinge gets its tacs, once I’m happy it all works I just run the welds. Smoothed up and ready for the next stage. Both sets welded up. Now it’s on to actually working out the actual mechanics of it fitting from post to stile.

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

Setting up for MIG welding is fairly straightforward, I stick weld when I’m on site as it’s way more convenient but in the workshop I always MIG weld unless it’s massive stuff. I am using 6mm bright mild, so it’s really soft, dead easy to drill and great to weld, i first grind 45 bevels on each...

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

i am currently nearing the end of making some hinges for a fairly big gate as far as pedestrian gates go. I haven’t documented the making of the gate as it differs very little to a previous post I put up here on the same theme, and it’s a bit of a ‘you’ve seen one you’ve seen em’ all’ kinda...

    Thomas Robinson table saw Rebuild

Thank you for the reply. My ET E has the exact same wheels as that ZT, with the wooden handles too. Looks very similar aside from the dust chute set up from this angle. What are the differences between the two? Mine also came with the fence stops, two of them, that I believe are cast bronze...

    Thomas Robinson table saw Rebuild

I love this saw, I have recently just finished rebuilding mine, it’s (I believe) an early example with a large and small raise/tilt wheel with lovely wooden handles. Possibly 50’s? 60’s? Not too sure but it’s a superb piece of old English iron I am very fortunate to have the fence that can be...

    An interesting roof.

A little late to the party this one but I managed to get a photo of the thing settling in nicely after I went back to the site. Quite a structure this one was, and it was tricky to install it but we got it done in the end and alls well that ends well. Scotty

    Speed Awareness Course

I know the RD’s quite well and have covered some miles on the 350 but do not own one, I am lucky enough to have the predecessors to the RD though, the YDS7250 and the YR5350. Very similar machines to the RD, disc brakes and reed valves being about the only meaty talking points between them...

    Speed Awareness Course

Did it ever run a hot plug on the middle cylinder? I’ve got a few 70’s two strokes, I use a 73’ T500 as my summer daily transport for work, it turns the journey into an occasion every time. No Tax, no MOT and 60 quid insurance for the year. That’s my kind of motoring. I would love to have a go...
