    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

The Bursgreen UOS I use daily (pre Wadkin takeover) has straight knives Vann. Whether Wadkin put their skewed blocks in when they merged I don’t know.

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Exactly that Pete, I’ve given it a go on this message so we shall see what happens. Pleased you’re interested and glad you’re enjoying it. Scotty

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Is that measured on the over or the under? This Wadkin is a 24” and that’s the max width of the thickness bed. The top will shear 26”. my daily user is the Bursgreen UOS, that’s a similar size to your SCM (capacity wise, it’s still a big old cast lump) and it very rarely comes up short in the...

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Hiya Fred, I am pleased to hear that and I thank you for the interest. I shall try my best to get as much detail on here for you as I can. Scotty

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

The big reveal this afternoon, little and often gets it done. It’s an incredibly simple design, superbly well over engineered and thought out. I shall remove the other table tomorrow which will allow me to easily get at the block and pressure bars/feeds etc. Scotty

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Had a quick look at the planer this afternoon, initial tear down stuff, removal of the fence, access door for the rise/fall gubbings, some platage in the guts of it to gain access to a few things etc etc. The fence is substantial on the FM, and unlike my Robinson ET/E it has a canting fence...

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Thanks Pete, in context I paid considerably less for this machine than that block, and in my line of work I don’t think I would need to consider it. It’s horses for courses though, I imagine if you needed the finished finish straight off the machine this would be ideal, and that’s a great...

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Holy Mary I’m not sure what Canadian dollars are to Sterling but that’s crazy, what kind of a difference does this make to the two knive block i am familiar with? I have never even seen one of these before, since joining this forum at times I’ve felt like I’m back in the dark ages, never heard...

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

Thanks. I hadn’t seen one in the flesh before I got this one. It’s a real quality piece of kit, everything on it is buttery smooth and it just works, it looks fairly tired but they were built so well back then looks count for nothing. I am fortunate to have a cache of Stainless Whitworth...

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

It is a superb piece of engineering. My dad has a Bursgreen that I use nigh-on daily which is an 18” model, and at times it hasn’t been wide enough so that’s the reasoning behind such a size. I am only familiar with vintage machines so I don’t know the thinking behind removable tables for...

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

no you don’t touch the tables at all. There is a fabricated steel hood that is used above or below depending if your going under or over. It’s very good and simple to set up. I’ll show you on the Bursgreen tomorrow, it’s exactly the same set up. Thanks for the interest.

    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

I have got around to getting some photos of my glorious Wadkin FM 24” Planer before I strip it and rebuild it. I have recently finished my Robinson ET/E dimension saw, and the Wadkin is next up. My working circumstances are due to change in the not too distant future, and very sadly I will no...

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

I appreciate the interest thanks to all for the kind words and taking the time to have a look. the next interesting job that comes up ill be sure to get it on here, in the meantime I’m bringing back some lovely old English machines to their former selves and as and when I’ll try and get that up...

Making Curved Hinges for Oak Gate

Job done. Install went without a hitch really. I quite enjoy getting away from the house’s windows and doors and getting a change of scenery Scotty

    Robinson ET/E Saw

I got a few shots of the Wadkin CC at work, I’m hoping I can upload a video that’s longer than 30 seconds so I can actually better explain what it’s for and how it works as trying to do it in photo form with a description will be tedious and very likely confusing for you. Anyway I took a few...

    Robinson ET/E Saw

Thankyou it’s not quite finished yet but nearly there. The crown guard is superb in both looks and function for myself, the big advantage in this set up is I can remove the riving knife and still run the crown with the guard in place. Very handy. That’s for the interest

    Robinson ET/E Saw

Wow. Surprised at the interest on here thanks to all for taking a look and the positive feedback. I am only interested in old machines, it’s all I’ve ever used since I started my apprenticeship some 15 years ago now, it’s good to hear I’m not alone in the appreciation for them. I won’t get a...

    Large garden planter design

I made loads of planters at the start of my apprenticeship, ranging from small to massive and square to totally round. We used fibreglass to line them mainly, but also heavy gauge plastic seemed to work ok over the top of 1/4 ply. On the particularly large ones we used to make up a simple...
