M33 x 3.5 would not fit on the headstock spindle of your machine. As Robbo indicated, you need a 3/4 x 16 tip fitting. Good luck, and welcome to the craft.

    Naive wood-turning question.

As everyone else. Do you have a bandsaw? That should be your first point of call. Personally, I would hesitate to turn a square blank of that size on a dedicated Woodturning lathe, let alone on a machine not designed for that purpose. Anyway, good luck with it. D.

Post a photo of the last thing you turned

Great job, Steliz. Are these segmented, or is the brick like pattern added after turning? D

Post a photo of the last thing you turned

Although she is retired, my wife volunteers as a medic with a charity in Uganda that helps sick children. One of its activities is with children with a variety of disabilities, both physical and mental. She recently asked me if I could turn a rattle that could be used as a stimulant to these...

    Parting tool

Hi Guys, I have been given a fluted parting tool (Ashley lies). I’ve only ever used standard bladed parting tools, so I’m a bit worried about using this new one. Presumably it’s used with the flute down, so I wonder if there’s any danger of marking/ dinging tool rests. Any advice? (Don’t laugh) D

Axminster M33x 3.5 Woodturning woodscrew chuck

Cheers Robbo I have a C spanner for my 4 jaw chucks (Record Power). I use it occasionally, but mostly rely I on the steel rod trick.Needless to say, in my desperation yesterday I tried it on the Axminster . Also needless to say, it didn’t fit. I think I’ll contact them to see if they can...

Bought a lathe on a whim - advice need, please

You also need to make sure that if you buy a screw on faceplate the thread suits your headstock spindle. On the lathe info.plate it says that the spindle is 3/4 inch x 16tpi. If you get a faceplate with any other configuration, it won’t fit. If you buy a single faceplate ring, it won’t matter...

Hi, Phil. I have used the steel rod trick with a normal 4 jaw chuck, but this chuck is not of that type.

Axminster M33x 3.5 Woodturning woodscrew chuck

Hi, Phil. I have used the steel rod trick with a normal 4 jaw chuck, but this chuck is not of that type. See photos. I have used cork washers in the past to prevent chucks sticking but stopped using them when I started using the metal rod in the jaws trick. Thanks for reminding me about the use...

Axminster M33x 3.5 Woodturning woodscrew chuck

Hi Guys, Sometime ago I bought an Axminster woodscrew chuck. I have only used it occasionally, generally preferring faceplates. I used it today to mount a bowl blank. As well as the the centre screw, I also used 4 short screws to secure the blank. Having turned the outside of the bowl, I came...

    Spalted wood

Hi Guys, As promised, here’s the bowl turned from the very punky wood. I lost a fair bit turning it, and even then you can see the extensive rot that caused a good deal of chattering. I’ve no idea what wood it is. D.
