How many planes do you own Derek?

    low angle smoother

It's hard to think of a more versatile plane than a Bailey. It's most valuable aspect to me is its ability to hog off without tracks then go back to a sensible cut. Also it's necessary to occasionally check the moving mouth section is perfectly flush as dust can get under there. That tiny bit of...

    low angle smoother

For me the problem isn't the performance at the blade(I love the quangsheng iron) it's the feel in use. I always think I'm gonna drop it as it handles so poorly. It's just a product of its low rider design. But against a Bailey its not nice... try it. I do use it at 25 degrees chuting where its...

    Harrogate Show

The guy told a sorry tale of how he was shafted by trend and another partner. It's really for touch ups rather than regrind and as such isn't something I'd use tending to trash my chisels as long as possible then tormek them. Where do your sharpening problems seem to lie spectric? Scary sharp...

I always feel sorry for those misplaced stalls. Like finesse pewter(I never saw anyone at his stall) golra edge tools. The light lady, the guy selling cheap paint where le tonkinois should be....

    Harrogate Show

That's a fair assessment of costs overall! I saw much better quality tools in Harrogate antique shops tbh. Including a unused and immaculate hields of Nottingham hollow and round part set. It's not that I don't love these boutique tools. It's just that the prices make them only for hobbiests and...

    low angle smoother

If your used to normal planes they are unwieldy. As a special addition plane maybe as a first no way. They work as low angle end grain dressers. But have limits when used long grain.

    Harrogate Show

The Sunday was way less busy than Saturday. There was talk of making it 2 days instead of 3. I was slightly worried at the drop off of many stalls who had attended in previous years. Someone suggested they had hiked the price. I felt woodturning was a bit overrepresented both in selling and...

    Harrogate Show

I find every year its different enough to come away with something. Often something cerebral that's tweaked my creative streak. Harrogate Town is OK posh and a bit black range rover.(like an upmarket buxton or maybe a downmarket bath.)

    Harrogate Show

I'm visiting Harrogate today and the show tomorrow. Years ago it was nearly all owd chaps but there's a few younger hipsters and ladies! I've always (10+years) avoided the demos! I love the buying part(maybe the looking part to) I do like chatting when I'm in the mood. Especially to the more...

Any new panel products for making kitchen cupboards?

I always choose suppliers on how easy they are to deal with firstly. So can I turn up wanting an item and leave with said item in the van (possibly cut for handling) in 15mins. If I have to deal with salesmen and pulled faces and come back tomorrow and non transparent pricing I'm gone(hymor)...

Any new panel products for making kitchen cupboards?

He's one chap that seems to be able to beat the large suppliers on a range of panel products. I just wish there were more like him. He's perfect for the little man as he's size blind. And best of all easy to deal with. He won't ship beyond a few miles and it's better to collect. He's about as...

I can get birch at £70 a sheet. Use acid cat or water based heavy duty lacquer.

    Record StaySet - opinions

This literally anything that made life bearable not so much easier! Those guys slept. Hence every older operation on wood starts rough(axe)better(drawknife/scrub) fine(spokeshave /smoother) finish(scraper) it's just monumentally quicker that way. Sharpening the same.
