So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

Which bit do you think is incorrect? Id really appreciate you clarifying any inaccuracies I’ve made and helping my understanding by specifying what is the correct interpretation.

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

The chancellor wanted to ensure the super rich Labour peers, the Prime Minister and Labour funders were looked after. So, Capital gains for the rich (those who pay 40% tax) rose from 20 to 24%, so a 4% hike. A bit harsh, but don’t worry, the ordinary working person earning an average salary can...

    Wadkin ags 10 Lock Nut

I think @Bingy man has a pint that’s not been buttoned down. I agree with the assessment that the threaded section of the spindle looks bent. Please check it out before committing another nut. I’d place a metal ruler against the threads (after a good wire brush) and with a light behind the ruler...

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

Sorry should have started it by saying that after such a dramatic budget the chancellor in her infinite wisdom stated that she couldn’t rule out further tax rises and that speculation is now rife that……pensions etc etc. she needed to rule it out rather than tossing petrol on the fire of...

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

The change in the tax on pension funds will affect everyone including those who think it’s a good change. Many people have banked on the 25% cash free sum to for instance pay off their mortgage and enable them to have a reasonable retirement. The change, along with preventing any surplus in the...

Advice on buying vintage Wadkin BRA radial arm saw

There was a dinky Wadkin RAS which the one in the photo looks like. I might have a factory single phase full size Wadkin RAS that could be for sale which is properly dialed in (it’s my own) if a friend decides not to buy it.

Sedgwick MB rise and fall damage

A good excuse to get that metalworking lathe pressed into service. It’s not as scary as it appears at first. Do some tests cuts on aluminium to get a feel for it if you’ve not used one before.

    Spindle moulder bed/fence/guides.

The Sedgwick should have come with Shaw Gards which are very good. I would however recommend getting yourself a Maggi powerfeed which makes it both far safer and gives a far better finish. The old Wadkins had a couple of tapped holes in the bed opposite the spindle to allow you to bot down back...

Paint spec for renovated sash windows

Airless is easier IMO to start. HVLP you have to dilute the paint and it’s not as forgiving.

Advice on buying vintage Wadkin BRA radial arm saw

Check the bearings in the track, as @guineafowl21 says they are eye watering expensive to replace. The other thing to check is the spindle, nut and the hex slot in the end of the spindle. The motor is a special, so if it needs replacing the machine is really only good for spares / scrap. The...

Sedgwick MB rise and fall damage

I’m with @Fergie 307 I too think the thread on the shaft looks unusual. I don’t know if you have access to a lathe, but if you do buy a length of say trapezoid threaded bar and the matching top hat bronze bush. They are not very expensive from say Accu Engineering. Then get the rod turned at one...

    Money's no object !

If money were no object, I would like to set up a technology park, adjacent to which would be a university that purely focused on proper engineering not the watered down version taught today and admitted pupils based on purely on aptitude and ability and provided full tuition and a bursary to...

    Beginner router kit

Well, if you can stand in the floor, the Morticer will happily stand on it too. No need for RSJ IMO🤪

Sedgwick MB rise and fall damage

Helicoil wouldn’t be too successful as the reason it’s cast iron is for the lubricant properties of cast iron. The screw raises the thicknesser bed so the cast iron aides in the smooth operation. A helicoil is great for fixed fasteners and not for this application IMO. A solution other than...

    Uses of old petrol

It will just sit on top of the diesel, it won’t mix. One day, when you run down the tank it will suck that lovely petrol into your engine and oh boy, will you be glad you added it your tank.

Where to buy electrical cable 6491X

@Spectric I know rings are ‘old fashioned’, but they do provide IMO redundancy for a single CPC fault. I kind of favour running a radial rated cable but making it into a ring. Sounds daft I know, but it means should the CPC connection fail anywhere I have a back up circuit.

Where to buy electrical cable 6491X

@Spectric I really appreciate your insights and questions. Hopefully I can explain my logic. Any radial drop for a machine could be over the passage of time a say a 16/ 32A Single phase or 3 phase, or anything in-between as things change. My workshop over the last seven years changed both in...

How easy is it to fit a kitchen?

I know it sounds crazy but get a few quotes from bespoke kitchen makers installed. I was looking to make my own cabinets for a utility, the cost wasn’t much different from the material cost for me to buy (18 months ago) and cheaper than the cost of Howdens units without fitting after discount.
