    Pillar Drill advice needed

I've recently bought an old Elliot pillar drill, that has a 13mm keyless chuck. Problem is, the end of the chuck wobbles slightly, which means the drill bit does not run true. The spindle and the top of the chuck appear to be free of any sideways movement; just the adjustable part of the...

Adams Workshop Build Thread.... got walls & a roof!!!

I'm about to claim our 12' x 8' shed as a workshop and I need to add electrics, so I look forward to seeing how you go about it. Does anyone know if building regs can be avoided by putting a waterproof socket on the outside of the shed and running a beefy temporary extension cable to it? I'd...

    Myford Planer help needed

Thanks for all of your responses. So, if I have for example a 2 1/4" piece of timber that needs to be 2", I set the thicknesser at 2 3/16" and force the timbeer through the gap and keep decreasing the gap until 2"? Seems a pity not to use it if it's taking up space.

    Cheap extraction

Having read threads on extraction, I realise the danger of dust inhalation, but I'm practically on a zero budget. Anyone use a vacuum cleaner as a dust extractor? I'll be using a table saw, router, mitre saw and a surface planer mainly. Is there a cheap way of hooking up piping to fit vacuum...

    Router buying advice needed

Hi all, I'm setting up workshop soon for occasional use and want to incorporate a router table into a run of worktop. Any advice on making it appreciated. As for the router, I've never had one before. What are the pros and cons of different collet sizes? Any other advice appreciated. Thanks

    Myford Planer help needed

I wonder if anyone can help. I have just bought an old Myford surface planer, which has a removable thicknessing attachment. Lovely machine, but I can't work out how the thicknessing attachment works! The thicknesser is a height adjustable cast iron plate that has previously been attached to...
