    I fail miserably to sharpen my spindle gouge to the lovely workable edge that it had new. The shoulder never seems quite right and often the top get too sharp a point. Please pease and tips, angles...anything please...T

    Blister... Could easily find the room near the log burner but certain I would never be forgiven.....T As for the ice carving...well we now have ice about 3/4 thick so soon crack on with that one, maybe, well not sure, well you know, errrm, TOO COLD...T

    Hi Rod..yes still here and likely to be here for week or two, in fact moored alongside the horse sculpture above the top lock. The locks close tom for winter maintenance so no traffic for three weeks even if they could ice break. Be good to see you and say hello if you this way and it goes...

    Heating

    In the past I used a paraffin heater and to be honest it never occured to me that it was unsafe, ooops, maybe it was. The problem with any temporary heat is that it makes any steel/ metal condensate as the heat kicks in. Would it make sense to have a least a little low heat permanently in situ?

    Given we live on a narrowboat and my workshop is now the towpath I am to say the least a tad scuppered. Really too cold to feel your fingers even less the feel of the chisels. I wait on !!!!!!!!!!!!! :cry: Ps any work shop space available at Foxton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

    oh err, will drag out the black thorn and "do some stuff". If I could manage to get photo's on the site I would show my style, need to get techno!!!!!!!!!!!!! T Ps my oldest son has a mate of the aforementioned surname. Will give the griff!!!!!!!!!!

    Ok will enjoy. But by awesome contrast I escorted my good lady to the Dentist in Market Harborough yesterday and we walked past a house that is clearly empty but being renovated and there on the front lawn was a felled YEW and HOLLY...O.M.G...I gibbered on the spot and drooled with sheer...

    Oh lots of interesting stuff there though I am most intrigued by the "boiling" bit. How does that work? I have sealed the ends but conversly if I rough turned would that not likely to crack the spindle if drying was sped up. I am off today to a local auction house where I am assured there is...

    Having started out again after a long break I have obtained my new supplies from the hedge here abouts. Have selected ash and hawthorn lengths approx two inch diameter to store internally in temp about 15c. How long to season this wood? in anticipation!!! Terry
