    Wadkin FM24” Planer Restoration

$1.00Cad = £0.59 so the cutter head would be £2772 plus whatever import fees applicable of course. Advantages would be a better finish on wood with grain direction changes or in some cases rowed grain. Being carbide the inserts stay sharper longer but are not as sharp to begin with as HSS...

    New workshop soundproofing ideas

The Rockwool is better than fibreglass bats. Don't know what PIR is, as we don't have anything by those initials. If you put bats in the space and then resilient channel (Z shaped or hat section shaped strips of sheet metal) on the framing with your sheet goods attached to it, sound...

Advice Please- Table Saw Push Sticks and Disks

spiritburner being Canadian I sometimes wonder what the he...double hockey sticks these guys are talking about. The terminology for woodworking is different and there is no figuring out some of the other expressions used, that's why I asked. 😉 Pete

    For Sale |Scroll saw

I paid the equivalent of £360 for my much older Canadian made 30" Excalibur and drove 3 hours each way to get it. Yours is a bargain and if it were local to me I would buy it even though means I would have two. Pete

Advice Please- Table Saw Push Sticks and Disks

Neil when you mention "disks" are you referring to the saw blades? The one that comes with the blade will probably be a combination blade for carpentry work and be okay for basic carpentry work. Try it before ordering more and investigate what you need to make sure you get what you need. Pete

    Saw stop ( USA )

You have to realize the statistics are from hospital admission records. They are very basic at most so beyond it being a saw injury involving which hand/hands, which fingers and possibly if it was work related, There will be few if any records as to the causes. Records for work injuries are by...

    Platter Blanks

Any reason you don't buy boards wide and thick enough from a hardwood dealer, bring them home and cut them on the bandsaw? Even without a bandsaw you can crosscut the boards with a circular saw into square and then cut the corners off to make octagons. The rest can easily be done on the lathe...

    Saw stop ( USA )

85 post so far in this thread and 20 of them yours. All arguing around and around and around the same points that eventually no matter how relevant become noise and the value of the message is lost. Happens in every thread every time. You never get it. Very happy I never had to work along side...

Planer Thicknesser - Old one with a helical head?

Sheartak costs seem to be roughly 60% of what you are kicking around. A grand Canadian is £570. Sheartak have files on tons of heads they have made and will make ones they haven't made before without any surcharges. You order from Canada and they make the heads in their factory in Asia and I...

I just want a nice METRIC ONLY comination square

I don't know if it is more or less likely to rust but at the time I liked the cleaner, thiner shape of the forged heads so went that way. They remain clean to this day but they have never been stored in a damp environment either.

    Proxxon scroll saw

I think you should consider the Excalibur in the Market Place section of the forum right now. Maybe too far away for you or too big however it is light years better than the little Proxxon. From the pictures you have posted you have the skills to utilize it fully...

I just want a nice METRIC ONLY comination square

I have a forged steel (not the cast heads) Starrett combination set with 1' and 2' decimal/fractional imperial rules and 300mm and 600mm rules that I bought in the late 80s. They were not inexpensive by any measure 😊 but I have got my monies worth out of it and I hope to get another couple...

Workshop wet and dry Vaccuum recommendations approx 48l

I had a wet and dry vac I bought and it was out of warranty when it quit. 😡 I took it apart to see why. One of the carbon brushes was stuck in the holder and was near new in length. The other was so short it was no longer contacting enough to keep working. I thought it was a fluke and bought...

Why isn't there a reasonably priced eclipse-style honing guide?

I use my 8" grinder to hollow grind the edge, then a few passes on a bench stone or two to clean up the edge. The tip and rear of the hollow register on the stone and no honing guide is needed. Touchup on the bench stone as needed until it gets to the point where is doesn't register anymore...

    CL500M 3 jaw chuck removal.

Are you sure that is a backplate and not the end of the spindle? Quite a few small lathes have a shaft like yours that all the chucks bolt to. I just bought a Holzmann HOB260ECO and it is very… meh - help on aligning it?

MikeK had a very similar machine with issues I think. He wrote about it in this thread. Holzmann HOB260NL P/T Issues Spoiler alert. He ended up getting rid of the machine and getting something else. If yours is new you might want to take it back before getting too deep into it. Pete

    Local whetstones

I have a couple of those stones I think. Stashed away in boxes so long ago I don't remember where. Not used yet as I always wondered if they were meant to be used with water or oil and I had Arkansas and Japanese water stones. Care to enlighten this heathen? Pete
