Rather accurate tree felling

That gap was nearby and fairly easy to hit.

Tree fellers put a ten pound note (or similar) on the ground, way out, where the TOP of the tree will land.

If the tree hits it, the feller gets the money, otherwise the other guy does.

Once you understand the "hinge", accuracy is less surprising (although the extreme accuracy of the good guys is still hard).

I was surprised at which side he made the final cut. Until the wedges I thought he was heading towards the camera (or slightly to cam right), as you can't see which way the power lines run.

You'd think cutting that side finally would jam the bar - I think he took several big risks! Still, all's well that ends well.

Those were my thoughts, too, E the V. In fact, was puzzling as to what the dickens he was doing with the wedges until the last moment. Couldn't see his "hinge", so no idea how deep it was, orientation or anything.

But more seriously, just hope the vid doesn't encourage amateurs to attempt similar precision felling with NO protective gear.

Um, yes. Wonder if you can tell how many years it is since I last used a chainsaw...

Still, Grandpa had one of these:

Being very small at the time, although I remember it in the machine shed, I never saw it used.

He apparently knew what he was doing. A very good job indeed.

However I normally use my tractor and logging winch to pull down trees in the right direction when I am felling close to buildings or power lines. I climb the tree and attach the end of the wire rope and then I either direct the wire rope through a block fastened to a tree or a stump in the direction of felling or I just place the tractor far enough away so the tree top does not strike it. With a helper at the winch it is very easy to pull down a tree very accurately.
I am not a professional but do a good bit of tree felling every now and then and do not want to take unnecsessary risks.
