Following Alf's request for a step by step guide to posting images using Flickr... Here it is. Perhaps this could be added to the existing Sticky.

Firstly, you need a Yahoo profile. It is free and easy to sign up.

Once you have your account you can start uploading your pictures straight away.

Click on 'You' and select 'Upload Photos'

Click on 'CHOOSE PHOTOS'

A file dialog box will appear. Find the location of the photo(s) on your hard disk and click 'Open'

Make sure 'Public' is selected and press 'UPLOAD PHOTOS'

Flickr will now upload your photo(s). When it is complete, press 'DESCRIBE YOUR PHOTOS'

Give your photo(s) a description and press 'SAVE THIS BATCH'

Flickr will now take you back to your homepage, where you should see you freshly uploaded photo(s). Click on the photo you want to insert into your post.

Flickr will bring up the photos page with number of options. Click 'ALL SIZES'

Choose the appropriate size for the forum. Here, large is a bit to big and will cause members to have to scroll in order to see the whole picture, so I am choosing 'Medium'

Highlight where it says 'Grab the photos URL' and press 'Ctrl + C' on your keyboard, or press 'Edit' and then 'Copy'.

Now, to get the image into your UKWorkshop post.
1. Press the 'Img' button
2. press 'Ctrl + V' or press 'Edit' and then 'Paste'. This will place the URL of the th image in your post.
3. Press the 'Img' button again.

You need to make sure that you have
afterwards. Like this:

That is it, simple eh? You should end up with something like this:

This is a tutorial for basic posting of images. You can post thumbnails using Flickr, but it is a bit more complicated than it was with Freeshare. If I get some time I will do a tutorial for that aswell.

Hope this Helps

Ta ta for now.

I've done a few of these tutorials on similar lines for talk photography where I moderate so I know they take a fair bit of effort. Can't find any faults with this one :) Nicely done!

Flickr don't give you a huge amount of space for free but I guess it will be enough for most users here.

Simon, thank you so much for taking the time. =D> I was hoping maybe there'd be a speedier way of using Flickr that I just hadn't spotted yet, but seems not. Shame about Freeshare - trust one of the mods will consign my thread on using it to archived obscurity and flag up this instead.

Cheers, Alf

Simon
Thanks for taking the time to help the IT illiterate like me it works a treat I have even managed to replace my avatar with your help,

Cheers Nigel

Thanks for that guide Slim. Much appreciated !
Do you know if it would work with Photobucket too? I suppose the terminology might be different etc. but I will have a look anyway, see if I can work it out..

Well it's not simple , Simon , not for me anyways but as I'm a fully paid up member of Flicker/Yahoo I will give it a try . Not that I have showcase stuff to insert but it could prove handy like say , in a cry for help from the lads.
Thanks for the showing the way , much appreciated by all I'm sure .
Cheers !

Photobucket is easier; assuming you manage to upload (instructions on photobucket itself, obviously!) you hover over the photograph you want , which brings up a menu of 4 possible "link texts" (*). Click on the one that says "IMG code", and the link will be copied to your normal cut 'n' paste buffer.

Now go to your lovely UKW message, and hit paste.

That's it, you're done.

It's just a cut 'n' paste.

BugBear

(*)the menu used to be always there, but now it's a hover
