I am putting together a table of timber yards, with information from members who have actually visited the yards. Can you PLEASE HELP with information about Lanarkshire Hardwoods (Auchengray, Carnwath) for timber/blanks?

(To VIEW the full list of yards click here)

(To ADD a new yard/s please post here after checking that it is not already in the table.)

Are they hobby friendly?

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Will they deliver?

Do they have online ordering?

Are prices displayed at the yard?

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Do they sell other hardwoods?

Do they sell softwoods?

Do they sell manufactured boards?

Do they sell turning blanks?

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

Do you have any comments?

Thanks for your help,
Neil

Are they hobby friendly?

Yes. Focus seems to be hobbyists and small furniture makers.

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Self selection during opening hours. All main pieces and some offcuts photographed on web site.

Will they deliver?

Yes.

Do they have online ordering?

Yes, but never used it. Web site: https://www.thewoodplace.com/

Are prices displayed at the yard?

All pieces except sawn boards are priced.

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Yes.

Do they sell other hardwoods?

No.

Do they sell softwoods?

No.

Do they sell manufactured boards?

No. Only slices of tree.

Do they sell turning blanks?

Don't know. Maybe some offcuts are suitable, but boards is their main thing.

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Somewhere between one-man band and small yard (proprietor, admin, occasional help).

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

I believe so, but haven't needed to have this done.

Do you have any comments?

Well worth visiting. Proprietor is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Free to browse without pressure to buy. Everything priced except sawn boards (prices on request). Main clientele seems to be specialist furniture makers - mostly boards and table tops, PAR and waney, many book-matched. Ranges from clear to knotty character pieces. Species in stock varies with season, or what's recently come out of the kiln/storage. Usually lots of offcuts to rummage through. In rural location - if visiting and unfamiliar with area, study map before setting off. At time of writing, prices include delivery, and are discounted 10% if bought in person. Prices are reasonable overall, offcuts often very cheap.
