I am putting together a table of timber yards, with information from members who have actually visited the yards. Can you please help with information about Thorogood Timber?

Are they hobby friendly?

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Will they deliver?

Do they have online ordering?

Are prices displayed at the yard?

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Do they sell other hardwoods?

Do they sell softwoods?

Do they sell manufactured boards?

Do they sell turning blanks?

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

Do you have any comments?

Thanks for your help,
Neil

Are they hobby friendly?

Yes

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Best to ring ahead so they can get a pack down from the racks, but you don't have to. You'll just take a little longer if you don't.

Will they deliver?

Don't know.

Do they have online ordering?

Don't know.

Are prices displayed at the yard?

No, but the salesmen will tell you what rate you'll be paying, and if you are buying waney edged boards they'll do the totting up in the yard with you.

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Yes

Do they sell other hardwoods?

Yes, particularly North American hardwoods.

Do they sell softwoods?

Yes, of the very highest quality.

Do they sell manufactured boards?

Yes, if you mean floorboards and worktops. I don't think they do veneered ply or MDF, but I could be wrong.

Do they sell turning blanks?

Turning? What is this strange thing of which you speak?

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Large yard

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

I'm sure they would, although I have never put this to the test.

Do you have any comments?

In addition to a full range of high quality seasoned timber in both hardwoods and softwoods, they also carry a large stock of unseasoned (construction) oak, and will price competitively for non-stock items. They stock OSMO finishes, as well as some others. This is a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful family run business, and I only wish they'd move back to their old yard so that they were a little closer.

No, but i listened to George Thorogood and the Destroyers this morning. Don't suppose that helps much does it?
