Yandles show next month \:D/ and I've just been given the 'nod' :-" to go, probably on the Sat as I normally do...any other takers? - Rob

Rob, I will also be there on Saturday. Look forward to meeting up again.

I will be in the area from Wednesday as I have booked a two day engineering course at Axminster on the Thursday and Friday.

Should be a worthwhile and enjoyable trip.

Tony.

Tony, it'll be good to meet up again...I need to pick your brains over the Thiein dustbin extractor unit and I'd like to hear how you're getting on with the new 'shop on top of the 'hill' in your garden - Rob

I am planning on going. Really enjoyed it last year, would be good to say hello to some of you. Not sure how that will work, given I don't know what anyone looks like, so will not be able to look out for you.

Maybe a UKWorkshop Sticker on the jacket is the way to go ?

Many will have UKWorkshop badges...organised by Wizer some little time ago. A did into the Rogues' Gallery might be of help in identifying bodies as well - Rob

I'm going today - Friday. I'll try and leave something for you guys on Saturday!

Not this time for me - up to eyes at work today and SWMBO has a full weekend planned (how kind!!!)

Have fun chaps - remember - Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten!!!!

Hmmm! It'll be a bit iffy, after the car load of European Oak, American Cherry and Birdseye Maple I drove away with. The locusts were out in force.

It was a great day out, but joking aside, there were a number of stands doing great trade and by the end of the day they were sold out and won't be restocking for tomorrow which surprised me. I wanted a couple of roller stands and ended up going back home (Plymouth) via Axminster to buy them there - where in fairness they were no more expensive than at Yandles even allowing for the discount..

Went with three other oldies - had a great day even though my friend's car broke down just as we got back home to Gloucester.

Amongst other stuff I bought a brand new but broken Stanley 90 for a fiver - a washer and now it's fixed. :D

This is not unusual for company shows, I have noted several trade reps embarrassed by the fact that stock ordered in for the show was insufficient to meet the demand, and even been aware of new stock being couriered in for next day by a rep.(i should think at a loss) so as to have stock there next day.
Yandles are not alone, Paskins had shortage of items listed on their web site and on show promotion. I guess the days of sale or return are not viable any more due to transport and handling costs.

Good job I won't be able to make it, first time for some years, (senectus or his side kick had a go at me that wasn't funny this last couple of weeks.) guess I too will be forced to call in at Axminster to spend that piggy bank surplus.

Was definately a busy day! More people than Ive ever seen at any of the September shows!

Came away with a huge piece of Brown Oak, Several pieces of Spalted Beech, a few Yew planks and some nice English Cherry! Would be rude not to at 15% off!

Oh and a nice Sorby proEdge!!

I've just got back from Yandles this afternoon, having had a really nice chat with Philly on the CHT stand...great also to meet up again with Tony (Escudo) and Tom (Wizer) Much to my surprise there were still some very acceptable 25mm slabs of wych elm (green tinge in the grain) in the shed, so I helped myself to a couple of decent boards (and a few other bits as well) A great day out with beautiful weather - Rob

Sounds like a good day out Rob.

Was tempted, but two hours or so there and the same back, the cost of fuel, and the need to get on with some of the gardening on such a nice weekend meant giving it a miss.

Being overrun with timber at the moment as well means I need to figure a plan of action for organising it before I go anywhere near another woodshed !

Cheers, Paul

I was hoping to go but was slipping behind with decorating and with visitors expected soon - no way.
Sad thing is that I am missing all this nice weather too!
Glad you had a good day.

Rod

A long drive home from Yandles yesterday approx 300 miles.

Glad to catch up with Rob, and sorry I missed Tom. Quite busy by the time I left early afternoon. Nice to see Terry on the Chestnut stall doing so well, purchased a tin of hardwax oil for my bench project.

Philly also on good form and Martin (Brimarc) provided a few helpful tips on best use of the Tormek.

Quite a lot of lathe demonstrators, one or two looked quite dangerous. I am surprised they all don't have to have protective glass around the fronts. Crowd very close to large pieces of spinning timber, no glasses and no sense of danger, looked like an accident waiting to happen. :( (I may write a letter, but don't want to be a jobs worth  )

A wander through the timber yard is a big part of this show. I wish there was a place like this up my way. Lots of nice timber, reasonably priced. I plan to go back again when on holiday in a couple of months time, and when there is less people about and have a good root around.

All in all a nice day out.

Tony.
