Yeah, I remember that one. I think he's probable dead to the reading public now, but he was originally a war correspondent who reported on the Russo Japanese war.
When I was a kid he was up there with King Soloman's Mines, Biggles, She, Kim etc.

I was 'misled' into eating some Bacon not so long ago. Someone brought round some mini quiches, from M+S I think, to a nosh in for F+F. They said they were meat free so I tucked in, like you do when being polite. As I ate them I could swear I tasted Bacon but thought 'nope, they're veggie ones so it must be my imagination' , it wasn't, as they discovered when they later bought another pack and looked a little closer at the ingredients.
Oddly, although I'd never eat Bacon as such, I might just be tempted to accidently eat them again should they ever bring any more round.
