Would a properly installed blade guard have prevented this?

This is what happens when people don't follow basic rules for guarding blades

That is such an obvious photoshop. I'm really surprised the Independent would fall for it.

Yes, look at all the mess and debris on the road, then look how clean it is all around the first picture. Where are all the bits of smashed grille and bumper? Looks to me like there was a sawblade accident, and somebody decided it would make a better news story if one of the blades had sliced into a truck, so they fabricated that bit.
 
I suspect it's clean around that car as its on the hard shoulder I'm guessing the blade was well embedded otherwise it would be odd to have got the car to the hard shoulder with the blade still in place.
