Hello forum,

Bad planning has led to a problem with the roof insulation / ceiling.

I had planned on putting insulation between the roof rafters then a vapour barrier over bottom of rafters and then shuttering ply for the ceiling.

However, the beams which are fixed across the rafters cannot be removed at this stage, which means that the vapour barrier would have to go up in three pieces between the two beams.

Is it still worth putting up in three pieces of vapour barrier up, or can I go ahead put the insulation (rockwool) in and then ply ceiling?

Roof structure above is slates / battens / counterbattens / vapour barrier / wbp ply / rafters.

Sorry if I’ve used the wrong terms , total novice.

Any info much appreciated , cheers.[/img]

Yes it's definitely worth it. Mines going up in 4 pieces - as I'm not wrapping the purlins in it, so can't see an issue with yours.

Mind you if it's just a workshop and will never be anything more - the permeability of the ply should be sufficient. However for the £20 or so of vapour barrier - you know you won't have a problem, whereas without it - fairly certain.

If those "beams" can't be removed now - are they coming off at a later stage or permanently there?
