Hi all,

I'm planning my up new workshop at the moment and have struck a small problem.

I've set the inside length of the wall to be 7320mm long so that it will accommodate six 1220*2440 sheet material osb panels as the inside covering.

I've then added the upright studs to my sketchup plan at 400mm centres and it doesn't work. By the time I get to the edge of the second sheet the centre of the stud no longer lines up with the sheet as the centre of the stud is as 2400mm, its only 44mm wide and 2400 + 22 is short of 2440!

What have I done wrong? The internet quotes sheets as 1220(4ft) by 2440(8ft), everyone talks of 400mm centres. However, I've just checked the loft floor boards I fitted last year (without all this planning malarky) and the 8*2's (the timbermans words) are actually about 2404 by 600?

Can anyone put a poor confused man out of him misery?

Common problem, plasterboard is 1200x2400 so works out well with 400cts but sheet material is regarded as 1220x2440 so set your studs at 406.66cts or good old 16" Thats why a lot of tape measures have 16" increments highlghted and its also the length of the small side of a framing square
