What colour Wood would you say Beech Is? I don’t think the colour is coming through on the pics. It’s a beautiful Khaki greyish colour

I chopped up a hazel log that looked like that.
Didn't think the stuff was so good, as in equivalent force needed to split compared to ash.
Shame, it would have been worth keeping.
Will be keeping my eye out for more chopped logs in the woods car park.
Wonder why it as chopped in the first place, if it was indeed hazel?
Don't think the forestry was doing clearing of sitka spruce where I think I found it.
Edit, I didn't notice that fleck present, though I wasn't doing much inspecting at the time.
That is a characteristic of beech for one.
Would get a better idea if it were planed in that case, as the grain of beech is very apparent.
The spoon doesn't look like beech to me if it is from the log.

Sorry guys. I no longer have these pieces of wood, so can’t show the end grain.
I think I would go along with Beech but haven’t seen this colour before.

I would say beech, but I did have some sycamore that looked like that. So just possible

If it wasn't for the deathly grey/brown colour of the wood I'd say that from the bark and the wood, beech might be a good guess. I have pieces of rhododendron that look identical to your piece - it looks fairly small diameter too.
European cherry is a possibility judging by the green tint on the right. I have seen that flecked pattern in cherry. If it dents under a thumbnail it is more likely to be cherry than beech.

I had some similar but spalted beech and it shows the colour and the fleck once aged a bit - as you said greyish.
