Wood identification pls!

Can anyone suggest what wood this is pls?

I would hazard a guess at yew.

I'd say yew as well.

It's a box made by Peter Lloyd, Cumbria and I can confirm from the book that it is Yew. It also has black walnut trays inside.

Note that in that image the box is freshly made - as yew ages with exposure to air and light, its heartwood darkens to a deep tawny colour, and its sapwood which can be near-white when cut, also darkens. So in a way, the image isn't representative of the material as we normally see it.

Ah ok. My first guess was yew, but I did wonder about the colour. I made this for a board game playing family member once. Lovely wood. Thank you.
