I was wondering if any one could identify a piece of wood I have and also a piece of veneer. The darker corner on the wood is after one light coat of danish oil. Thanks.

Well they could be a range of others but I guess the first could be afromosia and the veneer anagree but that's really more of a gut feeling than anything, hope it helps.

I have insufficient expertise to identify the wood, so I'll just congratulate you on posting excellent photos that should allow others to do so!

I'm not convinced the first one is afromosia, it's much darker and with more/larger pores than the afromosia I have. I thought it might be wenge, but that is normally darker, but the pores/grain is right, as is the end grain.
As for the veneer, I'm not sure. The first image looked quite like cherry, but the secon image not so much. I'm not too familiar with anigre, but I do have some somewhere if I get a chance to dig it out.

Cheers,
Adam

Thanks very much for all the suggestions :) I wouldn't have known where to begin.

If anyone else has any other ideas for the veneer that would be particularly useful. The colour is exactly what I'm looking for for a small project and I would like to order some once I know for sure what species it is.
