Hi folks
Wondered if anyone had any experience of using this stuff please?. I have quite a bit of oldish rough mahogany blocks and have an idea that I`d like to try with some decorative segmented turning. I`m not sure how deep the bleach would penetrate as the rings to be made would require about 0.25" to 0.5" to be turned off them, would this be too deep for the bleach?. The ring walls would be up to about 1" thick initially and from 0.25 to 0.75" each in height. If the bleach will only penetrate a few mm then I don`t think it will work.
Regards
Steve

Mornin' Steve. I use a 2 part bleach on some of my work, and it won't go as deep as you require.

The normal method is to finish sanding the article using a water spray to raise the grain. Then apply the bleach, you will still have to finish sand once dry, the more porous the wood the deeper the effect, but I don't think it will go as deep as 1/4 inch.

Use of different types/colours of wood for segmented turning is the best way.

Thanks for that Tam, I had my doubts it would work, I suppose bleaching would be fine after the work has been turned but not be practical for segmented stuff ;-(.
Cheers anyway
Steve
