So I've got a few saws recently but one of them needs sharpening. I found a link which showed a simple vice which was basically a couple of bits of wood with some battens along the top. Not been able to find the link since, but I can remember roughly what's what. So here we go.

First I chopped the plywood in half.

Then cut up the battens (cheap wood from the local DIY shed)

Then decided to thicken the battens, so decided to glue them together.

That took me about an hour total (including dithering time) so have left it for the evening. Tomorrow, I'm off to visit my Grandad, but when I'm back from Stoke-on-Trent (South Wales to Stoke and then back, it's a long day) in the evening, I'll glue and screw the rest of it together. Then I'll have to actually try sharpening the saw.

As you'll soon be able to see Morfa woodworking has produced yet another high quality, top notch piece of kit.

I've glued up the vice over the past two days. It took about 30 minutes in total (not including drying time) to finish off. So that's about an hour and a half max over a few days. It really is a very simple thing (there's some really fancy ones out there). Now I just need to get to sharpening a few saws.

A top down view. As it was out of the vice, I put a few clamps on either end to hold it all together.

In the vice.

I also made a benchhook. Again, didn't take long and I was pretty chuffed that I manage to saw it straight in both planes on this one. Pretty much the first time I've managed that. Here's a few more photos of that:

Yeah, it's nothing amazing. But it's all straight and true, which is about the first time I've managed that. Baby steps an all, but I'm happy.
