I have had Windows 8.1, for nearly twelve months, I find it almost impossible to use, I can’t follow it at all, as there appears to be no logic in the system. I still have to use my 8.1 for dummies book on a regular biases and then usually give up in frustration, and I used to think (XP) was bad, but all is forgiven on that score.

There are a number of ways of skipping the Start Screen & booting straight to the desktop

If you can download & install programmes then you might find Clasic Shell useful. It gives you back the familiar start menu

I would also create a Restore Point first, just in case

What happened to nine anyway?

We were discussing this at work. Consensus seems to be that when writing code for earlier versions of Windows, developers used the shortcut 'if OS = 9* then do x' so that they didn't have to distinguish between windows 95 and Windows 98. Now it has come back to bite them because calling an operating system Windows9 would be called by this argument also - hence calling the next version '10' rather than rewriting old code is an easier and cheaper solution!

Many thanks, for the links Robbo, but I would not dare to try and alter any settings, my HP laptop runs as it came out of the box, apart from the HP online technician setting up internet and Email for me.

The laptop has many things I don’t dare use or try to set up, like finger print recognition, beats audio, camera, touch screen and leap motion, (no idea what leap motion is). :?

Take care.

That actually makes sense Steve, thanks.

Hhm, "monetize the customer", that's an interesting term.
