A friend has been given this Disston saw and wondered if it was worth selling on the Bay?

The steel is 36.5" long and Disston "Philada" on the medallion. Beech handle.
Faintly etched on the saw is "Great American" and "taking out this saw day in and day out we challenge you to produce its equal". "Spring Steel Warranted" & "Pat Oct 4 1870"
Going by the teeth some sort of lumber saw so not much use for joinery or cabinet making?
With the Disston Institute out of action - grateful for any info?

Well Buck & Hickman's getting a workout this week. Turning to the 1935 catalogue we find:

Hope you can make that out okay - the scanner's not available just now so I had to photograph it. Not sure whether the timeline for medallions applies here as it does to handsaws etc, but fwiw until TDI is back up.

Cheers, Alf

Waterhead - Rounded up like a true Crowner
Folks have been ruined on the turn of a ha'penny - suspect the over valuation (nearly five farthings  ) may have soured the steal :D

Hi,

I have one like that it cost me 10p at a car boot sale, I feel I have been ripped off

I have used it to cross cut logs for turning it works very well, mine only needed a quick tickle up to get it sharp, it looked like it had never been used.

Thanks for all the info - it must be worthless as the front handle is missing!

I managed to get on the Disston site following the link given elsewhere but they do not cover these sort of saws (tree sawing) - also not all the photos come up for some reason?
The medallion is the same as the 1880 one, but the photo for the period up to 1917 is missing so cannot confirm.
