Why Skew?

Just been looking at this but can't see why he smoothed the piece down with the skew,only to re-shape it again,removing all the work done with the skew. :?
Couldn't you just have re-shaped without the use of the skew :?:
Or am i missing something as per usual :?:

You ain't missin' nowt. As they say Paul, as it looks like a Sorby video he is probably showing off the tools.

But some people use a skew like so basically as practice, if you do these practice runs on enough pieces you can become fairly proficient, and it saves you making a mistake on a almost finished piece.
