Some good friends of ours spent their morning helping us collect a trailer tent which we have been given. We will convert it into a standard trailer.
Whilst at their place, we saw a cat the other side of the road that didn't look at all well. I went over to it and basically, it was skin and bones. Apparently it had been fed for while but stopped eating. It was very friendly and wanted a fuss but was in obvious distress. Whilst stroking it, I felt it over just to see how it was and there was a HUGE lump in its throat, which would obviously make it difficult if not impossible to eat. Pretty soon I reckon it wouldn't be able to breathe either.
I asked our friends if they hadn't thought that it might be a good idea to put it out of its obvious misery. Oh we couldn't bear the though of being responsible for killing an animal!!!
The poor thing was going to die very soon in pain. I hate killing animals but do it on a regular basis in order to eat. How do they think animals get converted into meat? Someone else does it for you but the effect is the same. So thats OK but seeing an animal suffering and doing something about it isn't.
We took it straight to the vet and sure enough, a giant cancer bought on by the feline version of AIDS. The poor thing would have been hugely infectious to other animals including their dog. We stayed whilst the vet ended the poor thing's life.
A nation of animal lovers.
