Well I suppose it was bound to happen, after Mark Hancock got me using his hollowing tool at Needham Market and then spending an afternoon at Blisters, I have slipped on The Slope TM of the round spinney things.
Dave in Chelmsford had lathe he unfortunately needed to sell and well I could not resist.
As most people here like pictures I will illustrate my slide.

Here is the machine, still in its shipping packing.

And out of the box, no your eyes don't need testing it really is that small.

But it is perfectly formed. 8)

There are the details for Chas to add to the list of members lathes. :D

It came complete with a 'set' of chisels which I could not resist trying out.

So here is an off cut of sycamore from the cuff link making ready for turning.

And that it after about 20 minutes of effort on my part to remember the instruction that Blister provided a few weeks ago.

Much to my surprise the two tools I used worked quite well and so I then slid some more, why stop at one piece.

That is a bit of pine and the one with the rounded end is ash. :D

I have also made a file handle from beech with a nice copper ferrule.

Of course there is no stopping now, I have bought some pen kits, as it came with a pen mandrel. Think I should have got some spare brass tubes but they can go on the next order.
There is no chuck with it and in the old Axminster catalogue they say there is no provision for mounting a chuck. But I have found this
MM50.jpg

on the ToolPost site, it will need an adaptor to make it fit but I don't thing it should be too hard to sort out.

I do think so 'proper' chisels would help and I have followed the thread about what to buy with interest.

If you are very sad and don't get out much you might like to look at the pictures in more detail, here

Oh dear.
It looks like your attempts to resist have failed then Dave
Cracking little lathe.Ideal for pens etc :D
Will look forward to seeing more of your work.
Don't forget the piccys

That's got to be the smallest lathe I've seen on here. Anyone want to open a tote on how long before our esteemed moderator wants something bigger

P.S. Nice finish on the pine. Not easy to achieve. What speed does the lathe do?

Hi Pete,

It has three speeds:

3000 rpm
2000 rpm
1300 rpm

I was using at 2000 rpm as that was where the belt was when I took it out of the box.

Me memory is a bit sketchy but I think you can get a small 3 jaw chuck that fits the spindle thread... Unimat make one I think... 14 tpi seems to ring a bell.

if you're up this way anytime we could do some mini stuff

Hi Dave,
Good to see you have a lathe now. That Euro Walnut will turn a treat and make a great looking pen. If you want any help I'm not far away. :)
Have fun with it

Hi Dave.

Graham is correct the Unimat chuck is M14 x 1mm, if it fits this lathe, Chronos is the place to go. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

:p :p Cheers Tam... I was just about to book an appointment with specsavers

that is a cracking little lathe, i had one of them several years ago, it came with a load of pen kits too.
enjoy, you are well and truely on THE SLOPE..

That's the Christmas presents sorted then, pens, jewelry, little presentation boxes etc. etc.

You can just here it now:---- "They're rather nice Dave, do a couple more for--...---.."

Nice one Dale

If you had said you were going to get a lathe , I could have helped with some of this
