Well I suppose it was bound to happen, after Mark Hancock got me using his hollowing tool at Needham Market and then spending an afternoon at Blisters, I have slipped on The Slope TM of the round spinney things.
Dave in Chelmsford had lathe he unfortunately needed to sell and well I could not resist.
As most people here like pictures I will illustrate my slide.
Here is the machine, still in its shipping packing.
And out of the box, no your eyes don't need testing it really is that small.
But it is perfectly formed. 8)
There are the details for Chas to add to the list of members lathes.
It came complete with a 'set' of chisels which I could not resist trying out.
So here is an off cut of sycamore from the cuff link making ready for turning.
And that it after about 20 minutes of effort on my part to remember the instruction that Blister provided a few weeks ago.
Much to my surprise the two tools I used worked quite well and so I then slid some more, why stop at one piece.
That is a bit of pine and the one with the rounded end is ash.
I have also made a file handle from beech with a nice copper ferrule.
Of course there is no stopping now, I have bought some pen kits, as it came with a pen mandrel. Think I should have got some spare brass tubes but they can go on the next order.
There is no chuck with it and in the old Axminster catalogue they say there is no provision for mounting a chuck. But I have found this
on the ToolPost site, it will need an adaptor to make it fit but I don't thing it should be too hard to sort out.
I do think so 'proper' chisels would help and I have followed the thread about what to buy with interest.
If you are very sad and don't get out much you might like to look at the pictures in more detail, here
