hi

i have a wood burning stove and a endless supply of 3-4ft softwood posts which are 3x3 inches square.I currently use a reciprocating saw (fat max) to trim them down to 6-8 inch lengths, but as you can imagine
vibration is an issue so is the time taken to cut,any recommendations on what would be the ideal type of saw to buy, would a table saw be sufficient to use and what would be the ideal saw blade size and any particuler brand?

may sound a bit daft but don,t really know much about power saws, had various suggestions including bandsaws and chainsaw etc,but seem like a lot of over kill for fire wood.

thanks

wessa

A small decent quality electric chainsaw. It's not worth even thinking about table/bench saws if that's all you need it for. A hand log saw with a decent blade would be easier than a reciprocating saw, I'd have thought.

If these are treated fence posts, please don't.

But in any case, for 3x3 softwood, any hardpoint hand saw will go through it easily and safely in less time than it takes to put your chainsaw trousers in.

thanks ,should of said earlier but as i normally get them 100+ plus at a time that would be around 600-700 cuts and i need to get them down to size pronto for storage.Heard a few people bragging about the titan electric chainsaw that screwfix do,they have it around £80 but offer it at £49.99 every few months or so,titan any good ?

Wessa - thanks for that electric chainsaw tip. They are £49.99 currently so I just bought one just for cutting up firewood. Nothing to lose really at that price.

got one myself too,can also speak well for their no-nonsense chainsaw oil @ £3.99 a litre, can,t go wrong :)

I bought this chainsaw a year ago, its much better made than the previous makita.

As soon as the trigger is released the chain stops instantly, before the motor even.

Chainsaw oil -I tend to use very cheap engine oil!

I got the Titan for chopping up my pollarded eucalyptus a couple of years ago, did the job fine - still work nowadays just needs a sharpen.

Anybody need any fire wood?? :)

Might want to look at EVO rage chopsaws by screw fix. Blade will cut wood and metal so don't need to worry about nails if thats an issue. They were doing a deal on 1 model with the stand which would make life very easy especially if you have the room to leave it up. The stand is sturdy too.
