or the Veritas Journeyman's Brass Mallet

Many Thanks

I'd opt for the LN d/t saw and as you have Jap chisels (not my choice and I have owned a set) the small Veritas mallet is the one to go for as Jap chisels are intended to be stuck with a hammer...any other chisels without a hoop at the end can be used with the wooden hornbeam mallet (I use a lignum one of about the same size on my LN chisels) - Rob

I had a LN DT saw, didn't like it, sold it. Since buying this saw:

I've been a convert to Japanese saws, at least the dozuki for now. This saw is the best one that I have tried (and I did try a bunch) among the affordable saws. The product description is not hype, it is for real. Very highly recommended.

As for mallets, I use the round type, lignum vitae substitute mallet from LV, for all my chisels (Japanese or western). I know you're supposed to use a steel hammer with Japanese chisels, and I even bought one, but somehow I'm comfortable with my mallet, and it seems to work just fine.

I use a 375grm Japanese hammer from APT for bashing my Japanese chisels and a Lignum Vitae for my western types. Do not like bashing wood on metal and vice versa.

Sunchild Japanese saws used to be recommended by David C and I have a dozuki from Workshop Heaven which I like. I also use a small Razor type from APT for very delicate work.

If you can afford the wait, a Wenzloff D/T is good and I have read good things about the Gramercy saws from Tools for Working Wood.

I like my Wenzloff or Gramercy DT saws, depending on the size of the stuff I'm cutting. Remember that after the first sharpening, all that remains is the hang and shape of the handle together with number of teeth per inch.
Mallets I make myself out of offcuts.
Rob Cosman has a DVD that covers setting up a DT saw (Mastering the DT Saw)
Cheers

i got an adria dovetail saw nice saw to use, if you look down the edge of a ln dt saw where the teeth are there not all straight, but the adria one is thats what made me get it as there the same sort of price.
