i think like most things in life you just need to think would i be prepared to do it if the boot was on the other foot

it's a seasonal job. I done it, and done it for a lot, lot less. I'm paying more than any other company.

I have worked in France twice in the last few years. Each time was for £200 per day, all expenses paid (flights, accommodation and a fair few beers!). This was in Arc2000 above Bourg St Maurice.

The first time was a weekend job (flew out Friday night, came back Sunday night) to fit some doors, sliding wardrobes etc. The customer snapped my hand off at £400 as he had been quoted £2k by French carpenters to do the same job. In fairness I probably did about 12 hours work in the weekend - including cleaning up after myself. It was bloody cold though, -17 when we arrived.

Here's the view from the apartment

I just can't see anybody who is going to be of any use to you responding to £12 per hour - the beers over there can be expensive!

Cheers

Karl

If the works all in France, why not offer a job to a local, seems to me 'you want your cake and eat it' fits the bill. Or is it that at these rates a no local would touch the offer?...bosshogg

i only mentioned the website as i thought to myself lets have alook at what sort of work this guy does and what sort of level of work hes expecting an 'experienced carpenter' to do.

on a personal note i don't like holding pages bit like buying a magazine only to find its full of blank pages.

out of interest would you come over to the uk for £12 an hr could you afford to do that yourself ?

If you are looking at adverts saying they will pay £12 per hour, why do you think they are advertising, it is most likely no one will work for them.

I pay my subbies £22.50 per hour.

Most expereinced guys who can do the job will get work through contacts or by ringing around.

Tom

Change Highly experienced to some experience required. Offer an incentive like half price skiing, have two rates, maybe £12 for someone with little experience and offer more for a time served. Maybe change your carpenter wanted to Joiner / chippy / carpenter / cabinet maker wanted. Times change and barely anyone calls me a carpenter anymore, its normally joiner or a**ehole hehe.

If your asking for 2 recommendations then its unlikely your going to get a numity but do a weeks trail. You fly them out, put um up on a floor/settee and feed them but don't pay. If there not upto it, shake hands and fly them back, if they are give them a key to there apartment and ask for their NI number and bank details.

More importantly your in a different country its only good manors to offer the work to locals first.

Have you got a nephew who likes snowboarding?
Hi 2tone, have sent this to my nephew, (he knows I did this sort of thing 20 years ago in Val D'Isere and Courchevel and had a lot of fun), would consider it again if I wasn't so past it :(
Its not just about the money, its also about life experience.
cheers chris

The add makes no mention of this type of lifestyle that you have been talking about here, the way it reads is you just want an extra man for a 3 month contract on low pay and maybe keep him on.

If its the lifestyle you are selling you need to make more mention of it

Also does he still get pay and accomodation in the winter season if you take him on for the odd call out?
