Hi all, I'm near to completing a small box and need to get some hinges for the lid, problem is I'm struggling to find some quality ones that are small enough. The box sides are 8mm thick. Classic handtools have Brusso jb 101 which seem to be the smallest Brusso offer but they only say how long they are and not how wide. Does anyone have any recommendations?

8mm sides may require some creative thinking. Model shop ones are normally low quality and a bit small. Most others will be too big. You may need to look at the design and see what else you could do.
Any chance of some pics? Is it assembled yet? Is the lid separated yet?

thanks all for the replies, I ended up deciding to go for the smallest brusso, found some dimensions and think I'll just about get away with it. How I'm going to get them exactly in the right place so that the lid remains flush to the bottom all round I don't know!

Hi Madge,
One way of getting hinges to line up is to cut them into one half of the box say the lid. Then add a little glue to the other half of the hinge, line it up and let the glue go off, when it has set you can lift the lid and there should be just enough hold to be able to mark the other half.

Would something like a smart hinge be suitable. http://www.fine-boxes.com/smarthinges I know with 8mm wood thickness and the hinges being 8mm wide, you will see the length of the hinge down the side of the box, would this matter?

thanks for the fitting advice, that should take some of the stress out the operation! Those smarthinges look great but I don't want them visible at the sides. They do look more elegant than the brusso's though and hopefully a little cheaper
