Whats with these "similar threads"

Are these something new and how can we turn them off?

I've not noticed them before (on this forum - too many adverts in between), but now that I've looked I see the joke thread is considered to be a similar thread. I think you've just been insulted by an algorithm.

I haven't noticed them until it was mentioned, they don't do anything so its hardly a problem, just don't look at them ;-)

The reason I dislike it so much is that it is leading people to comment and thus “revive” old long dead threads.
