What tool is this I'm describing...

I've got some discs from an old joiners workshop, they are about 7 inches long, 3 inches diameter. With blades on them.. Some are different shapes, I'm assuming these are for channeling skirting board out.
But I've got various sizes, wanting to sell but wasn't sure exactly what they were to sellsell, weather it's a jointer disc or a planer disc?.. Cheers guys.

One could argue they're "rings", very appropriate for a wedding.

There's an example of some of the bigger ones.

The taller blocks are probably from a 4 sider (correct name, a through feed moulder or planer moulder). If the bore size is 40mm then its certainly quite likely. Some of the serrated knife blocks may also have been used on a moulder.

The big rings fit into a spindle moulder.

The spacers with a slot are for a 4 sider, the others prob a spindle moulder.

If you are ebaying the blocks, quote the bore size x diameter x height. Maybe sell moulding blocks individually.

That statement is not correct. Most of the blocks meet current safety requirements for a 4 side planer though not for a spindle moulder. Limiters are a legal requirement ONLY on hand fed machines.

I would be interrested in buing some of those blocks if they were a bit closer to me. Shipping from England would destroy the deal.....sadly.


By the way most professionals use limiterless tooling in their spindle moulders despite the ban. Just because most of us cannot afford to scrap perfectly good tooling with current prices on new tooling. A lot of businesses would go bankrupt if they tried.
Square heads and slip knives are currently being phased out from professional use little by little. They have been banned since the 1980-ies at least and are a lot more dangerous. Personally I think we should all get rid of them before we start thinking of limiters.

Thats a fair point -I shoild have said for use on a spindle moulder. The blocks, to me look like 4 wing blocks not chip limiter style. Not to current regs, but if they are serrated knife, they are certainly safe tooling used correctly.

Ive nit come across square blocks for decades, I certainly would never use a machine with them on. Common on old tenoners. I think the tenoner at my college had them, a traditional wadkun swan neck jobbie.

Try putting it on a long buy it now listing on ebay at around £35-40 per complete unit (or as a job lot at ~¾ that price), listing "SCM, Wadkin, Weinig, Robinson" in the title would help get more views from the right kind of buyer.

If that fails speak to a reputable dealer in woodworking machines, tell them you're looking to sell some 4-sider tooling and give them the dimensions and bore sizes of each "[cutter] block". JMJ Woodworking
Machinery in Hull are the only one I can think of toward your end of the east coast, but there may well be dealers closer.
