Hi guys i'm just in the process of refurbishing some 'steamer chairs' and i'm wondering what to use on the brass fittings to (try and) keep them nice and bright and shiny. Any thoughts please..?

Heres a couple of the pieces....

and these are the 'possibilities' i'm thinking of using....

(sorry they're all rotated wrongly, i tried to change them in photbucket it it wasn't having any of it....)

As always your thoughts and recommendations please.... :)

In Southampton, you're ideally located to zip to your nearest yacht chandler and see what people use to keep the brass on their boats corrosion free. That's what I'd do.

You can buy special brass lacquer for doing exactly that. Think I bought mine from Axminster. I'll try and find the bottle after dinner ;)

Generally for long term protection of of brass it would be Incralac.

It contains inhibitors which prevent the corrosion products from forming and was developed for sea going vessels.

You can buy it in aerosol form from chandlers etc. I have the brushable form, but wish I had bought the aerosol. The solvent has a very strong smell, even when the can is closed you can still smell it.

Whatever you are coating has to be thoroughly cleaned with thinners / white spirit beforehand for best results.

I believe the inhibitor is harmful, possibly a compound suspected to cause cancer when uncured.

I do not think it is as easy to strip / maintain as simpler products.

Apologies for not replying sooner. I completely forgot.
This is the stuff I mentioned
