Hi people im setting up my own small work shop at home for sign making and small furniture im a first and second fix carpenter and its been a long time since ive been in a joiners shop . Im looking for a table saw and a plainer most of the timber I will be using will be on the small size and no more than 45mm thick but I need the cuts to be true spot on . Ive got £300 set a side for the table saw and £200 for the bench plainer the widest timber ill be running through the plainer will be 150mm whats the best I can get for my money guys I would just like to add ive not got the space or the funds for a big industrial equipment that will come in a few years

i fear that you are likely to struggle, even secondhand with that budget for a saw that will cut spot on.

The planer, well you may get lucky and sneak something in. The axi ct150 would do you nicely, but seems to be way above your budget now- a couple of years ago you may have got one. Worth looking for a planer thicknesser- you dont need to use both functions.

Hi Hope you are lucky in your search, I would never think to recommend one tool over another, but I can say that my Metabo 10inch saw has served me very well over the past 10years. There has seldom been a day go by without it being used at craft level making drums etc rather than furniture but the need for accuracy is just the same. I would say that unless you use a sliding table, I would go for a table that has one mitre slot either side of the blade. Easiest for making sled jigs for repeat cuts. As for a planer my DeWalt 788 planer / thicknesser has served me well and will surface 250mm boards and thickness up to 150mm I would say that your budget might be a bit on the low side but these days with some small business's going to the wall there is some secondhand stuff that is on eBay and such places. Accurate bespoke cabinet work will always find a market, good luck in your search.
