Hi!

Decided to use my dad's old lathe for the first time ever today. Turned a practise bowl and it had a lovely spalting. Not finished it properly yet but Just wondered if anyone could tell me what wood it might be... it was just an old log from our logpile!

Cheers!

My first thought was sycamore, but I have half a mind that it might be beech. If that is your first stab at a bowl, you should be fairly happy with that, I'd have thought.

Its very like a lot of Sycamore that JT has shown before .... & almost by default, could also be maple ( Acer's ).

But as said, U couldn't rule out beech .. but I'd have put my chips on Sycamore if it was a 'must name one' competition !

Nice bowl BTW ! 8) :D
