Its a saw tooth setter. It bends saw teeth so as to generate a kerf.

I still use one as do plenty other dinosaurs on this and other WW forums. The asteriod did not wipe them all out.

Thank you all, now a bigger mystery.
Why has my 83 year old, twice widowed mum got one in her junk drawer with old receipts, a cloth tape measure and an out of date by decades address book??

It is an Eclipse saw setter. As an ex-woodwork teacher in the days when we had to sharpen and set a workshop of twenty tenon saws I remember it well. I still have mine hanging up in my shop but with hard point throwaway saws it's become an orniment

I use one of these all the time, very useful tool, I'll never buy a hardpoint saw again now I've learnt how to sharpen my own saws.

I've two. One from ebay (£5). One from my father (born 104 years ago).
Both work well.

Agree, its a saw-set. My dad used to have one exactly that model, until he lent it to a neighbour - and never saw it again…
