Weird sculpture thing...suggestions before I burn it

This was a university product design project. The brief was to make a ‘jardiniere’ (fancy plant pot), inspired by my choice of architect. I picked Nick Grimshaw.

Its sycamore, purpleheart and aluminium. Finished with Danish oil followed by Briwax. The plant (eg., senecio rowleyanus or ceropegia) grows out of the internal pot with water reservoir and is persuaded through the centre where it hangs out of the holes. In theory.

I’ve no idea what to do with it now and can’t imagine anyone wanting to buy it. I wouldn’t get much wood out of it if it was cut up and I haven’t got space to keep it.

Ideas welcome.

if you dont want it, put a silly high price on it, bung it on ebay as a one off, direct from the artist and give it a few months. you might get lucky.

I thought exactly the same about drew. He’d sell it for £800!

I don’t know much about him, but doesn’t he like older stuff with some provenance? If you’re serious though, I drive past his place on the way to work.

Sometimes he gets people to make and modify stuff for him but he just has an eye for some thing that will sell.

worth a few photos and an email first to see if they would be interested?

Good idea Pete, And Drew Prichard loves lamps! In answer to your question Torx no he doesn’t stick to older stuff anything quirky and off the wall appeals to him, as does anything that’s well made. Worth a try, particularly as you drive past ha ha ha. Ian

I think it's really beautiful, a bit 'War of the Worlds' looking Whatever you do, don't scrap it!! If I was you, I would keep it. If you don't, in many years time, you will regret it. There is always space for things.

I would really try and keep it, I always regret getting rid of my apprentice pieces. I only kept a small tool set and a tin plate box out of the many things I made but really wish I had kept them all. Try and persuade a member of the family to look after the family heirloom! I think it’s a piece that will always attract comments and be a good conversational piece.

hope you dont mind me saying but although not everyones cup of tea, imho it is a piece of art and a very good one at that. Personally i would try putting some rechargeable LEDs in it maybe to sell it as a light ? As for selling it i would try etsy or chairish, if it was me i would also not be afraid to point out the fact its one of a kind, handmade etc and put a decent price on it. There are also a few local galleries around that will show your goods, they do charge a very high commission but i guess they do have to pay rent, rates etc so is only fair. Try instagram, message lots of interior designers with a short blurb. I you want help i have a few i have worked with also the gallery side too.

I agree with general view - if you don't want to keep it, fling a rude price on it, stick it on an auction site, or try a WAG-friendly gallery in somewhere like Knutsford. Never know, you might pick up some other commissions, or even a WAG of your own

1000% better than most of the stuff on 'money for nothing' so I'd say you could get a good sale there. I really like it, reminds me of the rocket lava lamps
