Made my first pen today (photos to follow, promise).

I finished it with a couple coats of Chesnut friction polish, my question is, should I have waxed it after?

I got a decent finish with the polish and didnt want to risk ruining it

Only if you feel you need to!

Some people will put a coat of Carnauba Wax over Friction Polish which works and is quite acceptable, probably not a bad idea for a pen as it will make the shine last a bit longer (carnauba being harder wearing than the Friction Polish when handled a lot).

Back to the paperwork now....

Hi Shanea,

It's not vital that you wax after FP, it's just another coat of something to protect it. FP has wax in the mix anyway.

The only problem I found with FP on pens is that it's not that hard wearing so doesn't stand up too well to dayly use. I favour Melemine Lacquer but a post on the turning forum will give you some pointers.

Cheers,

Richard
