I am new to this site and I have very much enjoyed reading about and looking at other peoples projects so I thought I'd have a go myself. Here are some pictures of a bath surround and vanity unit I made last year. Everything was made using normal hand and small power tools in a small workshop.

Hope this works and you can see the photos.

i love the bath panel, i bet that took some doing! are all the pieces tapered to allow for the different radiuses?
Yes that's right they taper two ways, the maths was complicated but fortunately the wife has a maths degree and she could help me with it. I marked everything out carefully and then cut with a circular saw, with afinal plane off to fit, I was surprised how little planing they required. Finally the job was all glued together with straps to hold it in place, the customer didn't want any metal fixings used.

Hi Simon,

Welcome to the forum........that is a very nice job you have done.

Did you make the metal frame below the sinks ?

Paul

Yes, I bought the mirror polished stainless steel in and made the frame by pocket holing the stainless to the walnut, I had to use machine screw (A4s/s) and drop the nuts into the box with a magnet. It was all a bit fiddley but if I made another I would use the same method. In fact I have made a mirrored cabinet very similar to house an Ikea basin.
The towel rails are from John Lewis.

First of all let me say welcome to the forum and what a lovely job you have made.

If I may ask a couple of questions as I am planning a refit in my own bathroom. How did you finish the walnut? And have you had any feedback as to the durability of the wood / finish in this environment?

 Stunning.

Where abouts in Kent are you out of interest?

I finished it with 4 coats of Osmo Polyx Clear (3062 I think). I have been back to the house recently to fit a kitchen and I did have chance to look in the bathroom and I can report it looks exactly the same as when I fitted it last summer (2006). I use lots of Polyx and I really like it, it goes on easy and gives nice results with the benefit of being able to patch repair if it gets damaged.
Thank you everybody for the positive feedback, this is really nice forum with lots of friendly people talented people.

My workshop is near Cranbrook but I live in Maidstone. Most of my work isn't local unfortunately.
