Oh, that link was to the saw from which i copied the riving knife concept. It's not a wadkin saw.

Sorry can't help you with link to belt supplier, bought mine locally in sweden. The should be easy to find, I took one of my old belts and drove to nearest supplier of mechanical parts, any well sorted store should be able to sell you new belts.

That's great Ola! Can you explain a little more about how you made the riving knife conversion please? My saw is similar and I would love a proper riving knife but haven't figured out how to do it.

Explaining the entire procedure would require it's own thread and a lot of instructions from me...and I don't remember all of it.

Basically I copied this concept http://thewoodenscrew.blogspot.se/2011/ ... -done.html but with a few tweaks to fit the AGS 10 saw. 3 parts (the ones involved in the rotation) in my construction were done using CNC since they need to be very accurate.

If you have any way to read 3D files I can send the entire assembly, that should explain most of it. Think twice before you modify, it takes a lot of effort and you need to turn (? I mean using metal lathe) a few parts to tweak were the saw blade ends up in axial direction. You also need to remove some material from the saw cast iron body itself and thread screws directly into the arbour hosuing. For me it was a +100 hour modification, but with the 3D files from me it's maybe 20-30 hours.

Hi Ola

I should be very grateful for the 3D files (I use Sketchup). I do have machining facilities and would like to do this mod sometime . No hurry as I shan't have time for a while.

Best, Keith

my ags 10 arrived today

looks class from what I can see

what's the minimum effort I can get away with for a conversion for a 13A socket?

2hp 4 pole motor with a new pulley on the end? Then will I need to source a new pulley for the arbor so they are both compatible with the same size belt? Then I'll need a custom made belt presumably?

if it goes on a 13A socket I'll want new switch gear?

*I've not had a good look at the internals yet as I've got exams next week so was hoping someone could give a step by step of how they did it. I realise there's a good few threads on this here and there but I'm finding the steps hard to follow between different threads I won't lie

I would guess it would be a 2 pole motor for a tablesaw.
My Startrite spins at somewhere around 3000 RPM and has a 66.7 OD pulley.

I would be interested in seeing a thread where someone modified a fixed star wound 380/420 volt motor to get
delta low voltage, and what needs to be done to the inverter to make it suitable for the application.
I'm under the impression that it takes a bit of work.

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply

The original manual says a spindle speed of 3850rpm (http://www.wadkin.com/uploads/files/Wad ... (10%20inch)%20Sawbench%20Manual%20&%20Parts%20List.pdf) but I imagine with efficiency loss due to belt, and inertia of saw blade this could feasibly be ~3000rpm? Point taken about 2 pole for the rpm

I guess what I'm asking is what sort of hp I could get away with. At 100% efficiency a 2hp motor would be ~6.5A steady state, while a 3hp motor is pushing near on 10A. Obviously inefficiency and start up load are things to factor in, I have no idea how. I guess the question is would this motor do the trick:

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/2hp-sin ... ole-motor/

It is only 3000rpm shaft speed so lower under load. The bonus is it's a 19mm shaft and I believe (although could well be wrong) my original motor is supposedly 3/4" so should it slot right in to motor pulley? The AGS 10 could be specced for single phase use with just the 1 1/2 hp motor so presumably it's possible.

As you can see I've got in a muddle of what should work in theory and having absolutely no idea as to how this relates to reality

I'm using the original 3 phase 3HP motor (dual voltage, so can run on low voltage 230V) in conjunction with a Huanyang VFD/inverter.
It has a rating of 8.10 amps and have it wired on a 13a plug.
24mm shaft ,close if not 3000 RPM I have it written down somewhere.
A frequent RPM on a lot of motors is 2840 I might guess it might be this RPM.
It might be an option to see if you can find a cheap dual voltage motor 220/240V delta voltage (triangle symbol)
I read that it is simple to swap out a motor on some of these Wadkin saws, aswell as on the Startrite 275's

Good luck with your exams BTW

Ah thanks I'll look into all of that

I was initially looking into going down that VFD route but seemed a bit of an expensive option and single phase conversions do have the higher price when comes to sell that was really the main reason for that idea - not glued to it though

I guess the advantage with that idea is I wouldn't have to rebore the pulley? Something I'm not sure how I'd go about doing and I'm very confident in my ability to get it wrong

Thanks for the luck.. I'll need it
