Hi, I just got my first Wadkin saw. I bought it cause it looked cute and sturdy. I'm not going to make a nice restoration just gonna make it run smooth and keep it as it is with all scratches.
Now I'm replacing bearings on saw axel. What's the purpose of this ring with a bolt?
It's loosely around saw axel, don't worry I'm going to put it where it belongs, just wondering the reason why its there.

It allows the spindle to be positioned slightly out or in ( left or right as viewed standing in front of the saw) so that the blade can be aligned to the riving knife. The riving knife doesn't adjust left or right, so the blade has to be aligned to the knife.
A proper setup has a riving knife that is thicker than the plate of the blade but thinner than the kerf.
So if you buy the wrong thickness blade, your riving knife might jam at one extreme or fail to prevent pinches and kickback at the other.
To do it right, try to align the centres of the blade and riving knife. Don't just slap a rule across the flange and line up one edge of the blade and the riving knife.
Look up a thread by Deema on this forum about the (rare) Wadkin BGS10. I think he has covered the spindle reassembly on there with photos.

I already have Altendorf F45 so I dont necessarily need an other saw but this was so cheap. And like I earlier said it's cute, at least next to that German cousin.

I also need to replace a worm for rise and fall. It still works but it's in very bad condition.
One option is to buy new for 200£ + tax + shipping to Finland, other option is to ask local metal workshop to make one.
Have you came across a technical drawing of that worm with all needed measurements?
