Hi folks,

I wondered if any members use some kind of magnifier, for jobs that require 20/20 vision.

An instance is sharpening tenon saws. I know how to do it, but I have had to admit that my eyesight is no longer up to the task, even with my 'dovetailing' specs. (No the specs don't do the dovetailing!) (hammer)

Does anyone use, or know of a good benchtop magnifier that is 'hands-free', so I can 'see', to get my 'saws' back to decent condition without paying someone I don't know to do the job for me.

Much obliged.

John :) :eek:ccasion5:

I've had one of these magnifying lamps on the wishlist for a long time now. Just haven't needed one badly enough to pull the trigger.

Can't recommend a specific model, though.

Thanks Pete.

I did see some on Amazon last night, but they don't look as big as ones I've seen in use. I need something that's for sure, so I am hoping someone can tell me they have some experience and have used one to good effect!

Cheers
John :D

I use a Clarke one from Machine Mart it has 3X magnification and cost about £30 odd pounds?
It has not got a "Daylight" type lamp but have been told it is possible to fit one - though the one fitted has not caused me any problem so far.

I've got a few saws to do soon so will be quite interested to see what folk use to magnify the view - Rob

John,

I have one of these from The Daylight Company.
The magnifier is I recall 5" diameter. The price reflects the quality IMHO.

cheers,

ike

I use this Maplin magnifying light for saw sharpening. It's very effective for the task (unlike my sharpening technique) and well made, I think.
